The wonderful Coos Media volunteers have posted the January 31, 2012 BOC meeting in which Sheriff Craig Zanni refutes claims made in a final report hastily submitted to the board at an earlier meeting.

[Begins 0:54:00] Of the two hour meeting fully one hour is taken up on this topic and citizen comments.

Zanni affirms concerns raised on this blog about the quality of the report and says that the committee failed to achieve its stated goals and he read from a minority report. He apologizes for not taking a stronger role in the committee to help keep it on track. “We totally missed the mark”, said Zanni.

Commissioner Bob Main took the opportunity to restate earlier complaints about the committee’s early release of the draft report and statements made by committee co-chair Al Pettit at public venues. He suggested that Pettit should have been fired, “twice”! Main brought up the astonishingly ill advised claims by Al Pettit that the county was vulnerable to hackers. “Thinking about what was said about IT”, began Main, “…though it is not true that we are vulnerable to attack… if we were, why would you announce to the whole world that we were? That’s totally irresponsible.” [Begins at 1:11:00]

Many citizens took advantage of the occasion to thank the sheriff and share their opinions of the co-chairs’, Pettit and Jon Barton, methods and tactics.

Fred Messerle who is the liaison to the structure advisory committee was very stoic throughout while Cam Parry was missing in action.
