The jury has been selected and is already hard at work on a bus tour to the site where Leah Freeman’s body was discovered and other relevant locations. They are expected to be back to court for opening arguments in about an hour.
The People vs Nicholas McGuffin is underway-
UPDATE Opening arguments set to begin tomorrow morning
There were many questions of prospective jurors when they were outside the court room – in the jury room, outside the building. I could not believe how many ignored the judges warning not to discuss the case. The questions most overheard of the jurors who could not resist discussing the case appeared to be:
1. Why was the mother so unprotective of a 15 year old. Permitting an active sex life. No apparent curfew.
2. Why didn’t Ms. Freeman call for a ride home or stop at her sisters employer en route home and ask for a ride.
3. How could the mother not have been concerned that her daughter was not home.
4. Several older folks discussed this one. I presumed they were Vets. People who take the life of another appear to have the same reaction (the first time) – sick, shaking, sweaty hands, dialated eyes, yet it is alleged that Mr. Mc was stopped twice by police within hours and was considered normal?
It would have been nice to be a part of a body that will sift through fact and fiction in an attemopt to discover the truth. If selected for the jury, I would have had questions that I did not have three days ago. I for one would be curious how these were addressed duing opening statements and I look to you, not the daily (maybe) bird cage liner who will write anything to sell a paper, including untruths about plogankelly being on court property.
