Court is adjourned until 1PM so I only have a time for a few, quick observations. The jury plus two alternates is composed of nine women and five men. Opening arguments will be detailed later today but it was revealed that the exact cause of Leah’s death was never determined, however, there was evidence of a puncture wound through a shirt and sports bra. Cory Courtright has completed her testimony.

New evidence read aloud into the record by the defense included a medical report of Nick McGuffin from July 2, 2000, when his parents took him to the hospital suffering with severe anxiety, depression, nausea and sleeplessness. The report mentions that the patient’s, McGuffin, girlfriend has been missing and this is the reason for his anxiety. He was prescribed phenergan to control nausea and Xanax for the anxiety and referred to his regular physician James Sinnott.

The description of McGuffin at the hospital, that he is flushed, weeping and shaky, is very much the same condition I saw him during his arraignment. Today, McGuffin, dressed in a black dress shirt and black slacks, is calm and composed and actively participating in his defense taking notes, whispering to his attorney and even smiling and laughing with her from time to time.

Will update more this evening.
