A visibly shaken, Bob Main, had to struggle for composure at a press conference this morning with Coos County department heads and the press. Nikki Whitty was also in attendance. Andy Jackson, had been in Riverbend Hospital in Eugene for a relatively minor procedure before returning to the Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. Last night, Jackson, who had a history of heart issues was taken by ambulance by to Riverbend a major cardiac hospital where he passed away.
It was only during the last few months that I had gotten to know Andy. He was a quiet sort of gentle giant but after a couple of long discussions I realized that he was always paying attention, very informed about issues, globally and locally, and while we wouldn’t agree on everything I felt very confidently that he would always make informed and thoughtful decisions. Without a doubt, Andy cared about the county as a whole and would not have been influenced by select or special interests.
The county will accept applications to fill Jackson’s commission seat pending the next general election in 2012. Whitty, who has been battling cancer announced that she would be getting a ride in to work every day to resume her duties.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. For information on funeral services contact Bobbi Brooks in the commissioners office. Main commented that a really large venue will be needed for all his friends to attend.
Peace be upon you, Andy, we will all miss you.

Curt. Per your request, this Firm offers the fallowing opinion: Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Definition of CROOK. transitive verb: bend. intransitive verb: curve, wind. The only Libelous ascriptions were made by Mr. Fred (whoever he is pretending to be) when He ascribes, “… illegal, immoral, or unethical?”.
Also, while tossing out libelous unsubstantiated allegations of his own, such as, “… define for us the meaning of “brain dead”.”

I am disappointed that you would chose this particular column to present your way off topic exchange.
I wish nothing but the best to the Jackson Family and Commissioner Main during this very sad time.
We will all miss Commissioner Jackson.
I just got to meet Andy last summer and asked him who the next Sheriff would be, and he had Craig Zanni come over and introduce himself. You can bet he connected a lot of folks in the community. Gone too soon and missed a great deal, thank you Commissioner Jackson!
It could be argued that lying to the public is crooked even if one doesn’t want to call kevin a crook.
Interesting to see The World suddenly learn so much about Andy Jackson after calling him a ‘mystery man’ during the campaign.
This blog has apparently attracted at least one writer prepared to define for us the meaning of “brain dead”. Apparently male or female “Curt” understands why they musat hide behind a screen name while tossing out libelous unsubstantiated allegations at one of our neighbors. To reveal their identity may have them in court soon and a favorable judgment going to Mr. Stufflebean so he may purchase Dr. Norm Sigband’s book – Effective Written Communication.
Note to Fred Kirby, if thats his real name: Fred, Im sorry your erstwhile political friend took your money and treated you poorly. You are angry, righteously, as many, many other pie-eyed political backers have been, but you are also defensive, ready to attack anyone who seems to reference your lying, incompetent, blame-shuffling friend, because you provided financial backing. More than once?! Fred, the man seemingly could not write a grammatically correct sentence, had awful PR – how could you possibly have thought he could make it in a political world? Thats quite an admission, in a public place even. Dont make an identity out of this. You made a mistake, move on, wiser now, OK?
Look, you seem to know as much about politics as you do about scatology, which you reference twice in your pitiful, angry outburst. Whale poop is in no way “low”, Fred. The stuff floats, and is even deposited at the top of the water column, where it is very valuable, to the algae, and consequently the fish. Its actually high, and high in value, so dont make that mistake again, please. :- )
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Jackson family and their friend Commissioner Bob Main, as well as all of the other people whose lives were enriched by Andy during his unfortunately too short time among us. We all lost a good friend in the community. It has been a very sad day. Jack and Julie
Dear “Curt”: I presume that you refer to Stufflebean as he is the only person recently departed from the BoC. Stufflebean may be many things; his own worst enemy comes to mind; but to hide behind a screen name and call him a crook is lower than whale dung. He treated me, a major contributor to his campaigns, like all others – like crap. It was time for him to go. Please share with us what makes him a “crook”. What did he do that was illegal, immoral, or unethical?
A real public servant, whose last act was to help us kick a crook off the BOC. We will all miss him.
