The World newspaper has a clear bias in favor of certain special interest groups, namely the chamber of commerce and economic development crowd. Despite a long history of failures the paper continues to back whatever scheme is promoted by these groups despite the detrimental effects on the citizens and the taxpayers. Corporate media is motivated only by profit and so when the paper mocked local activists for engaging in democracy, some of us decided it was time to let them know their voice has no credibility any longer.

UPDATE Four onlookers joined a group of twenty two to advise the paper it has no moral authority when it comes to democracy in the county. There were some great signs mocking the newspaper like it has mocked Coos County over the years. One sign had a cleverly constructed glass slipper and another had ruby slippers that glittered. While we were speculating whether the paper would cover the protest or not a reporter was eventually dispatched to talk with us.

New editor Larry Campbell came out for a smoke and a look and it would be safe to say he is not overly endowed with personality. While there is no expectation the protest will cause the paper any self reflection it was fun and the honks and thumbs up were very supportive and gave us the chance to bring attention to several issues including the NDAA.
