The World writes that the Port of Coos Bay has “laid off an administrative assistant, an assistant harbormaster, an RV park employee and a fiscal support specialist”, because it has redirected depreciation funds away from infrastructure maintenance. In the past the port has spent liberally on outside consultants and lists a “National Marine Sales Representative” based in New York on its staff page.
According to the paper, the Charleston RV Park is one of the port’s top revenue earning properties and there is no detail on how the park will be maintained now that staffing has been cut.
Current port management staff
David Koch, Chief Executive Officer
Martin Callery, Chief Commercial Officer
Donna Nichols, Chief Financial Officer
Kathy Wall, Chief Operating Officer
Elise Hamner, Communications Manager
Kevin Murphy, National Marine Sales Representative
Is the Other Messerlie still on the dole? Anyone know? Wasn’t there a third one on the take from the Port too? Geeez, there are so many welfare recipients from that one family. Who drives the Cadillac?
A lot of Chiefs. Losing Callery or Hamner would not create a problem for the port. Why not layoff the person who wastes time with all the fancy power point presentations. Most real CEO’s would start there.
I thought the same thing about “Chiefs” susanp. Very amusing corporate epaulettes they have tagged themselves with. Makes the sham all the more galling.
The best nugget in The World article was that the port “recently cut another $30,000 by canceling its membership contract with the South Coast Development Council, a group that promotes job creation in the area.” One failure washing its hands of another. The county bowed out two years ago and now the port cannot afford to support its little economic development sister anymore because it has wasted millions of commerce dollars on pies in the sky. Perhaps this heralds the death knell of both agencies.
