Project Censored has released its list of the top 25 under reported stories of the year. The list below includes the emerging police state and trillions of dollars of loans made to major banks as revealed by the first ever audit of the Federal Reserve. Somehow these stories don’t get a lot of play in the mainstream corporate media and an interesting interview is available in the video.
While the list targets the national press, similar omissions occur at the local level and probably for the same reasons. Remember when The World dutifully reported a press release from the Port of Coos Bay claiming a local shipper had a major contract requiring emergency repair of the Coos Bay Rail Link? Later it was discovered that the entire story was a complete fabrication yet the paper opted not to inform the public of the lie or its own failure to properly vet the original press release.
There are other examples of locally censored stories and someday I may document them here but the premise behind Project Censored is that media by omission is undermining our democracy and unfortunately, we see it all too often in Coos County.

We have been told why it takes five to make a Forman and Clark suit; and why it takes so many to screw in a light bulb. But, why does it require eight “editors”, all without fact, grammar or spell checkers to manage that few people rinky dink World paper?
