Position two candidate, Tim Bishop, told the AFT forum audience last week that none of the candidates were qualified to administer the county and that he wants to be a part time commissioner and continue running his business. One of his main goals is to hire an administrator or manager because “that’s how the school boards and cities do it”. The fact that many municipalities are on the verge of insolvency despite having a manager, or that the Coos Bay schools are operating on four day weeks despite a central superintendent or that the CEO managed Port of Coos Bay has blown through hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars with nothing to show for it does not deter Bishop’s opinion. The county is better off, in his view, with volunteers and amateurs sitting on the commission but who are nonetheless somehow qualified to select and hire a professional administrator.
Bishop is effectively running for a commissioner position that does not exist in Coos County.
Bishop also believes that a suggestion floated by former port CEO Jeff Bishop for an educational foundation funded by Jordan Cove is apparently a done deal. Perhaps he will produce the signed paperwork confirming this corporate charity and largesse. Bishop also notes that the Jordan Cove LNG project will “fund our urban renewal districts”. Unfortunately there is no empirical evidence to support that urban renewal districts accomplish their stated goals or provide a positive return on the taxpayer investment but that wouldn’t bother Bishop because he is still proud of his role in the $51 million 12″ pipeline that promised 2,900 jobs and instead encumbered the property owners and the county with millions of dollars in liability.
Candidate Kermit Gaston takes issue with Bishop’s claim that no one is qualified for the job and he makes a good point that everyone has something to offer. However, in Bishop’s case I would have to agree the man isn’t qualified to be a commissioner.
It might be better to wait until after the primary and see who prevails in one and two and then launch a write-in campaign for the general election.
ima – let me know where to send a check to pitch in….
Please, the tribe is buying position 3. Check all the donations from tribe members that the World conveniently did not mention last week end. It’s probably tribe money being funneled through members. Cribbins, the world paper choice is at best an inexperienced lawyer. Why did she not list scientist, NASA inventer, and microbiologist on her campaign papers if she has such verifiable experience? We already have three lawyers in county government. Cribbins has been second guessing what they have done. Please, let’s mount a campaign to elect Jody. If she says yes, I will consider a half page ad in the Sentinel – the World is overpriced for what they deliver.
The SCDC Cof C crowd are scared to death of Jody, same with Randy Sanne, they know they’re smart and that they think for themselves, a real threat to those who’ve been believing the lie about jobs being touted here for forty years.
It has to stop now.
I will probably mention more about this in a later post but it appears that candidate Kermit Gaston is an inductee to the Bob Main school of county politics. Along with Main campaign signs plastered on his vehicle and joining Main for lunch, he is sounding more and more like a Main clone asking questions to pump up Main while niggling at Messerle. Since my faith in Main’s judgment has disintegrated I am naturally wary of anyone being taken in by his manipulations.
Consider it done…Jody for 2 or 3? As the most obsessive about politics in my little group, I am supposed to advise them on who to vote for in 2 & 3, and I don’t like any of the wannabes. I suppose it’s too late to mount a write-in campaign for Jody, but I would love to see some heads explode should she ever garner the votes…:)
We can also write in for the general election. Like you I am struggling to find someone to support for 2 and 3
Yes, we can write in other candidates and IF one write in candidate receives enough votes they can advance to the next general election or even win in the primary if they garner 51% – Jody McCaffree comes to mind as a possible write-in
Forgive my ignorance; can we write-in candidates for positions 2 & 3?
We are going to have to dig hard to find to settle on a couple of candidates for positions two and three and we aren’t likely to find one that doesn’t believe that LNG on the North Spit is a magic pill to cure all ills. (Tell that to Cameron Parish, LA) Poverty is soaring and while unemployment dropped a few percentage points but the population dropped by 31%. There simply is no empirical evidence that perpetuating fossil fuels and the health risks associated with them helps local economies.
This is Tim at his best. You may have missed him when he was the primary push behind consolidating Coos Bay and North Bend. He believes that you and I are dumb. He is an embarassment. Want to see Jim Bice go ballistic, ask about Tim Bishop. Bishop recently told us that we are too stupid to vote on a county administrator. Sweet did the same today. Kiss your tax dollars good bye. People wait for the World to endorse and then vote accordingly. The backed three amigos Sweet, Cribbins and Messrle are about to be above the cut in the May election. PLEASE, let’s agree to support one decent candidate for positions 2 and 3. Who is that?
90 percent of the candidates are running for the wrong (job) office. A commissioner, of the County is not responsible to create jobs.
Sweet supports an administrator also but at least Sweet has the appearance of good manners, doesn’t whine and unlike Bishop doesn’t insult half the voters by making sweeping statements like “McCaffree, who is against EVERYTHING”. What a cloistered world he lives in and just to be clear none of us are against everything we just know how to analyze a business plan and how to take into account cumulative effects over a long term. In short we are against bad business judgment.
That certainly helps Sweet, Cribbins and Messerle, the chamber, SCDC, World paper (all controlled by your friends Slater, Barton and Pettit) annointed candidates. And, speaking of World paper. What a set up. Last week their candidate Cribbins, she’s the only smiling person in the six pack of mug shots on the front page of the World, told all about why commissioners can’t create jobs. Today the World paper writes how wonderful that thought is and later this week they will state how wonderful Cribbins is. SOLD TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER!!! Don’t belive what the World wrote last week end. Cribbens has reported many more large donations from the Tribe and tribe members than listed by the World. We dont need another county lawyer – a person who is already second guessing what the county lawyers have done to date. Want two more years of second guessing? I don’t.
Thanks Tim, you’ve made my job easier. Oh, and your insulting of Jody ? Thank god we’ve got someone intelligent on our side. But I appreciate your honesty in stating YOU are not qualified to serve.
Koch Sucker, blames our mess on a woman activist.
He doesn’t know what the H he’s talking about, he’s a Koch Sucker who now wants a bigger gubernut? Poor guy.
