By Larry Van Elsberg, former Coos County Roadmaster

Dear Commissioner Perry,

As a citizen of Coos County, I feel an obligation to try and stay informed on matters that affect our way of life here in our great county. I realize that you are not running for county commissioner, but you still have the potential to make decisions that affect us all before leaving office next January. This makes me nervous. You were not elected by the people and chosen by a handpicked few of people representing special interest groups. I’ve come to realize by watching Public TV on the internet, reading local media and blogs that most candidates have an agenda supporting those groups who supported them. This is what always bothered me about Coos County Politics.

While you have great speaking abilities, your passive approach to solving problems that face Coos County in my opinion, don’t seem to be in the public’s best interest. An example would be your position on the Waste Connection matter and them not abiding to the agreed tonnage they should have been hauling to that facility over the years. I realize that the recent engineering report puts a different light on this matter, but the fact is the Board of Commissioners “current and past “have failed the citizens of this county by not enforcing this agreement.

Regardless of the outcome on the Beaver Hill Disposal Site, I strongly encourage not only you, but the full Board of County Commissioners to seek compensation from Waste Connection for their violation of this agreement.
