In just the last few weeks we have witnessed some tap dancing by this board of commissioners worthy of a scene from Chicago. Parry appears to operate on the premise that if you repeat something often enough everyone will believe it and even though video records, public records and even the county’s own attorney present conflicting evidence. Nothing stops him from spinning his tale, not even the other commissioners. Parry made a lot of noise at the recent BOC meeting about civility and respect but respect is a two way street and this commission and Parry in particular should expect downright contempt when they waste the public’s time spewing falsehoods.

Parry has been caught trying to turn yard debris into salad before and now that his past statements are catching up to him, he switches back and forth between defense and offense and again employs his technique of making unwitting accomplices out of innocent bystanders. On Tuesday, he even included engineers, lawyers, accountants and county employees from solid waste to the treasury department, none of whom were present to correct his assertions. Parry even tore into Randy Sanne, who has been attending BOC meetings long before anyone knew who Parry was, accusing him of campaigning against him (Parry) because of opinions I wrote on this blog regarding his incompetence and mismanagement which Parry wrongly attributed to Sanne. When asked why the board has not enforced an agreement with Waste Connections that could bring in $1 million to the county solid waste department, Parry tosses up more word salad about “moving forward”, mentions sledgehammers and says “that’s not how I roll”. He offers up excuses but refuses to provide reasons.

Parry also uses hyperbole. At Tuesday’s meeting he exaggerates the number of BOC meetings he attended before becoming a commissioner and about the “points I always tried to make”. Parry attended one perhaps two meetings at most and they were on special interests not general business. He tells a citizen that the county investigated carbon credits with “some of the top people in the nation” and “we had a workshop”. It wasn’t “top people” it was one individual from EcoTrust who admitted to being new to carbon credits.

Throughout all the theater and posturing and web weaving the other two commissioners are mum, adding silent affirmation for every word out of Parry’s mouth. To Parry, groans, sighs, gasps and guffaws are uncivil … dishonesty, though, well that is perfectly acceptable.
