As a staunch opponent of the Iraq occupation I have traveled back to Washington, DC several times to lobby to bring our troops home. I write letters to my representatives, testify at hearings, write editorials, track Congressional votes, sit in on endless conference calls, read vociferously and participate in many protests and vigils. These are tasks I undertake because I know that some young Marine or soldier is going to die today. Actually, on average three will die today and I hope beyond all hope that my efforts combined with the efforts of so many others like me, may spare the lives of these young men and women.

Coquille values?

Though I was unable to attend the August 6, 2007 Coquille City Council meeting several people advised me of the conduct of Councilor Bruce Parker regarding the Coquille Valley Sentinel. Parker was quoted as saying that the paper did not reflect the ‘values’ of Coquille. He referred to the authors of letters to the editor regarding the local police department as ‘malcontents’.

Bandon City Council – Iraq too divisive

The Coos County Democrats brought a homeward bound resolution to the Bandon City Council last night. Councilman Mike Claassen had worked hard to put this issue on the council agenda and dozens of supporters were there to testify in favor of the resolution. In the end the matter was effectively tabled until a later meeting and no vote was held this evening.
