Last week The World reported that the county had forced an employee in the Coos County Assessors office to retire early. Before the start of today’s BOC meeting county counsel Josh Soper and commissioner Bob Main advised the audience that the employee in question approached the county and requested early retirement if the county could also carry health insurance through December of next year. It was determined there would be a savings to the county and a mutual agreement was reached. “No one was forced into retirement”, said Main. “The paper got it wrong.”
What should we expect from a publisher who has not been a reporter or editor since college and who is finding great difficulty giving his paper away. Or from the city editor who until a year ago was doing free lance stuff on skateboards and fudge. Or from a many editor titled cuisine editor. Those folks would knot know news if it bit them in the butt. What has Novotny, a man with extensive experience reading the KCBY teleprompter with days old news, done for us lately?
The World Facebook page is nothing but Happy thoughts and sad dead dog pictures. There was a gas leak and evacuation downtown North Bend last night. But the World posts a contest to win free tickets to the County Fair, and boy howdy is he getting the “hits” that he strives so hard for. Why else would a supposed ‘news’paper not even mention an evacuation? Ask him. Ask him why he has “free tickets”, “What do you like about this place” and dead dogs. THAT folks is why Coos County moves backwards unlike the rest of the coastline who is working hard to improve their waterfronts. The World is even worse now, it simply does not report news, not even an attempt. Cut and Paste is the best you’re gonna get until the county demands a properly functioning system of reporting news to it’s citizens. Happy Thoughts indeed Precourt.
