Since 2010, 33 municipalities across the country have filed for bankruptcy. Not since the Great Depression have so many cities been so broke. No other place in the U.S. has borne the brunt more than the Central Valley city of Stockton, Calif. – the largest city in American history to file for bankruptcy. Now, the city has defaulted on its bond payments and stripped health care from retired police officers and firefighters. All the while, an unprecedented legal battle is raging between creditors and the city in federal bankruptcy court.
This piece from the Center for Investigative Reporting is well worth watching because it documents how slick operators come into an area and talk local leaders into some nifty development scheme… something we have witnessed in Coos County from time to time.

Too bad Clark and his newest ‘toady’ can’t see enough professionalism in their org. to even attempt to print news. They have just announced, they intend to print “happy” news to their readers. Happy happy happy, click them ruby slippers and follow Clark and his newest “newsman” which is nothing, absolutely nothing but the same old, same old, in spite of his feverish posturing and protestations that HE is Clark’s boss. Evidently Clark subscribes to Peter’s Principle. Obviously, they wouldn’t know what to do with an investigation if their lives depended on it. News reporting is a cornerstone of a civilized society, it is essential, and to see it turned into “Mad” Magazine, a la “What, me worry?” is an insult to any local citizen who thinks beyond the star struck “leaders” Clark supports slavishly, year after year should be a criminal or ethical (sorely missing from Coos County)no matter what the opposing argument is, it won’t stand a chance of surviving Clark’s propaganda machine. My opinions only boys and girls. Do a real job of reporting news, and you can bet you’d start selling papers and online subscriptions, which should be your job, you’ve chosen year after year to do nothing to change your direction.
