The commissioners have a busy schedule next week that includes a regular board meeting Tuesday with a full agenda followed by a 1:30PM work session to discuss the less than credible PSU study recommendations. The thirty three page report and seventy five pages of appendices can be found at the county website. Within the appendices is an oft repeated error that originates with the Association of Oregon Counties that 61% of Coos County is publicly owned. According to the Coos County Assessor, Steve Jansen, this figure is closer to 21%.
Of course, the same could be said for elected Commissioners, Sheriffs, DAs, unelected department managers, cooks, deputies and the drug dogs.
Are you implying “elected Commissioners, Sheriffs, DAs, unelected department managers, cooks, deputies and the drug dogs” don’t grow economies? Well duh. How about port and airport commissioners? Double duh. Keep looking for the magic messiah.
I have implied nothing. Let me reaffirm that administrator managed counties and municipalities are in deep water despite of and sometimes because of unelected administrators
Are you implying that the County Administrator positions have something to do with State-level budget woes? Please explain.
Wow M, the story just keeps repeating itself. Those who try to grasp at non existent life preservers, then reach out for a messiah to bring back the past.
The back-ass-wardness of accused radicals and conspiracy theorists amuses me. I get particularly tingly from the irony when it comes from someone getting by from the dream of a science teacher. Life is funny.
Magical thinking! AdminMan will sweep in with his wand and cure all ills despite any evidence he has ever done so before. As Cam said, “it is a philosophical change”, or setting policy without any empirical evidence. Not good business practice in my opinion.
California, home to some of the largest municipal bankruptcies in the country and essentially insolvent… yeah, let’s be like Cali
Susan – what leads you to believe that the report was designed to fit anyone’s agenda? That’s a dubious conclusion. Are you insinuating (once again) that those three authors are now part of the growing pool of incompetent conspirators who are out to destroy our County?
The fact that many universities offer a Master of Public Administrator in preparation for these positions, in addition to the fact that fifty five (55) out of fifty-eight (58) California counties have an Administrator, might be strong indicators that opponents are not in step with the times.
It’s a PU report. Is it really a “PSU study? These are three volunteers (two who were county or city managers) who appear to have authored a report to satisfy a desired bottom line position. Neither the organization who the authors wrote for nor PSU claims the three as part of full time faculty or members of either organization. Requests for bios (all faculty bios are at both web sites) resulted in a response that said contact the authors.
