Since when is an accusation by a discharged, disgruntled employee front page news? For that matter, how many businesses and public agencies have their managers personalities picked apart by the local paper? The World’s ongoing assault against ORCCA (Oregon Coast Community Action) responsible for running the local food bank is looking more and more like a personal vendetta than news. According to Food Bank staff, Chuck Krause who was terminated with cause by the agency, had created a hostile work environment and will not be missed but how is any of this news?
The real news should be how many people ORCCA serves every year and the thousands of clients to whom they provide energy assistance and weatherization and help feed. ORCCA has created more jobs than either of the local economic development agencies, The Port of Coos Bay or SCDC, and it has done so on a fraction of the money spent by either of them. That should be the news story, how community action operating on a shoestring outperforms state sanctioned economic development agencies. What is the paper’s real goal here? Does it hope to discourage contributions by painting the organization as evil or does it just want to get a couple of managers fired? Either way, it is just plain ugly.
Yeah, I am especially cranky and recovering from a serious bout of the flu but sometimes I just hate that paper.
I have to admit I don’t quite understand the teabag mentality. Government money funneled to help the poor – real bad, government money funneled to a corporate shell – real good. In fact real good enough to then conveniently forget it is taxpayer money. That’s been a common phenomenon in all sorts of ways in Coos County. Yet the messiahs have the gaul to call those who question such decisions as obstructionists and activists. Better than being a thief I say.
You have hit the nail on the head but I don’t think it is unique to the tea party. Rather I think it is a construct of the local self serving “elite” who manage to skim a few bucks off the top before the funnel directs all the real money out of town.
It’s not Alfred it’s Charles Alan. A one time shop visitor here. The fellow fixing my son’s hog had cleaner and more manicured nails than me. No grease. Wow, if Bice, MGX, and Bob Main agree on anything, it must be fact. The World paper would not know fact if it jumped up and bit them. Been following the factual articles about the sale of six million cubic yards of sand near KMart and building 5,000 houses? Perhaps Benny Hempsted can tell us how that will happen.
The KMart sand story is an excellent example of the sales pitch that surrounds all economic development and this story, in particular, has some interesting local twists. More to come (probably after New Years)
“Ill gotten gains”? Tell me more! Surely you, Jim Bice and Bob Main have something concrete on this topic or all of you wouldn’t be making these under-handed insinuations. I’m dying to know all the details and surely you have concrete proof of wrong-doing or you wouldn’t be making these accusations. Surely you wouldn’t take undo journalistic liberties with the truth just to make someone else look bad, would you? Of course not….
Alfred,
Why be coy? Why not just fess up? Say, yep I did it, I got XYZ from it. What are you going to do about it? What can you do about it?
Al is actually going to pretend that a federal investigation finding his fellow board member John Knutson LIED to state legislators didn’t happen. Or that his lies didn’t put a competitor out of business…. only pussies fear HONEST competition
Did someone mention pussies???
Pig Nuts has known a few…
Wow–After making your blog one of my most enjoyable forms of chuckle entertainment the last year or so—I guess I’m jumping in. I look forward to your next piece about Al and the greasy bikers he’s hired to work at Highway 101 Harley-Davidson. Mostly because I’d be included in that group. Formulating an opinion based on “he said, she said, he said” seems to be typical of this page. How involved I’ll get will be depend entirely on what silliness will be dredged up during the “thorough” research by which your comments are based. Otherwise, I have a life. By the way—I’ve never heard Al yell at any of his employees.
“I’ve never heard Al yell at any of his employees.” They must all be taller than him then.
I wait with baited breath for you very next syllable
Get well soon M.
Hmm. Another member of the Messiah congregation come a’ proselytizing the gospel.

I love Leonard Cohen
🙂 Have a Happy New Year, Mary.
Pshaw, al, you might as well just threaten me again with yet another lawsuit. Nevertheless, let me return the sentiment by saying that I sincerely hope you and your fellow rat PAC(K)ers receive your just desserts for your ill gotten gains this coming new year.
Your nap hasn’t helped but I am enjoying this just the same
I haven’t used any four letter expletives have I? I know I have been thinking of some
Oh. I’m sorry. I apologize profusely for pointing out your monumental hypocrisy.
Accusing and “pointing out” or actually proving something are two different things. All you have done is exactly what the paper has done and that is make an accusation without any facts like say a formal complaint filed with the labor department or an official finding of wrongdoing.
My next piece will be about how you hire greasy bikers to do your work for you and how he said that she said that he said you are a short pompous know-nothing know-it-all and you yell at your staff sometimes.
You are cranky today!
Yes, I am. Heading upstairs for another nap… before I say something I might actually regret.
Wow – if this isn’t the pot calling the kettle “black”….
don’t you have some oil to change al
