The dual role of publisher and editor has always felt like a recipe for conflicting interests and now Lee Enterprises, owner of The World newspaper has stripped Clark Walworth of his publishing duties as soon as a replacement can be found. According to the paper, the publisher is in charge of the daily operations of the print and online editions as well as advertising sales and its the latter that may influence editorial decisions. Walworth will continue on as editor and now that these functions have been separated perhaps the paper will begin to offer content that appeals to a broader range of readers. We can hope!
