The World’s editorials, “Voices of the Vanquished” on June 19 and “Bob Main’s Reckless Gambit” on June 21 have raised my ire. Most of the so-called vanquished see how unfair the system really is. With contributions from the Coquille Tribe and a PAC combined with the paper’s recommendations, it seems all three are trying to buy seats on the Coos County Commission.

The World is treating Bob Main just as it did Andy Jackson yet Jackson still defeated his opponent with 65% of the vote. The editor is pretty proud of interim Commissioner Messerle’s 46.3% primary total yet Larry Van Elsberg got 48% of the vote against Nikki Whitty. The handpicked selection committee did not even consider Van Elsberg for an interview. Fair?

Messerle was tapped while Whitty was still alive and has been tainted since he was appointed as the first ever alternate for the budget committee two years ago. Messerle was picked as a commissioner in an illegal executive session and one member of the selection committee was not even a resident of Coos County.

Main signing a petition to give voters an opportunity to vote on a charter should not be called a gambit. Should Messerle and Parry decide to hire a county czar based upon the recommendations of the advisory committees, it will be without the consent of the people. At least Main is letting the people vote for a county charter.

The editor says the charter will create chaos and I say with Messerle as chairman of the board we are already in chaos. All we need to do now is turn the “dream team” loose for the county funeral.

This is my opinion
