Bob Main, who waited months after Randy Sanne filed for position one to declare his intentions to run for reelection, is blaming Randy Sanne of stealing environmentally conscious votes from him and is now declaring Sanne’s support will help him defeat late filer Fred Messerle in the fall. Sanne voters may not consider Main, who is wholly responsible for appointing Messerle to the interim position, worthy of a vote, even if it is to defeat Messerle.
Even if Sanne publicly throws his support behind Main but many of Sanne’s supporters may prefer to sit out the election rather than vote for the lesser of two evils. Main betrayed his supporters by appointing Messerle and Cam Parry in the first place and is widely regarded as arrogant, rude, manipulative and self serving. At last night’s soiree at the Sentinel, Main quipped that if Messerle wins he will happily retire and go on lots of fishing trips. This leads to the question of why didn’t he just go fishing in the first place rather than steal votes from Randy Sanne?
Many people voted for Main rather than Sanne out of fear Sanne couldn’t defeat Messerle but Main is a fool to think Sanne voters will automatically step sideways after all the mistakes Main made during his term. Frankly, it isn’t that simple and as we saw from the record low turnout even high dollar ad campaigns couldn’t entice the voters to the polls. Sanne, who gathered almost 3,000 votes on shoe string budget of .40 per vote has a much stronger chance of winning in November, now that the public knows he is viable, than Main does. If Main really wants to see Messerle defeated this fall he should take a long hunting and fishing trip to Eastern Oregon and throw his support behind Sanne.
On a side note, interim commissioners Messerle and Parry were seen having lunch in Bandon Tuesday after the BOC meeting with Bandon city manager, Matt Winkel and North Bend city manager, Terence O’Connor. An email requesting the nature of their discussions has not been answered. Bearing in mind that meeting in quorums without public notice is allowed if they do not discuss county business the commissioners are also supposed to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. This commission has been meeting for breakfast in North Bend off and on for months and so clearly disregard appearances all together. Also, Mrs Messerle took to parking her campaign sign laden vehicle back in the highly visible thirty minute parking slot even after being warned about it previously. Some people may feel they are above the rules.
Mary what is in it for you. I think alot. If Fred gets elected then the scdc, the chamber and the tribe will be in complete controll of the county. It will no longer be what is best for the people for the county but what is best for them. so Mary unless you have a for sure to be elected write in canidate then We the people need to rally behind Bob and Don. If we dont our minerial rights will be gone. Our forest will not be sustainable. Remeber they said the minerals are worth more than the trees. If we get the Wagon roads lands it will end up in the coquille tribes’ hands. This group will hire a manager to get around open meetting laws. do i need to say more
thanks
Rickey Wiley
To be clear, thirty three candidates applied for Parry’s job and out of those five were picked. It was only of the five chosen that I though Parry was the best choice and from a purely entertainment perspective I would argue that I was right. Main used people all throughout his first campaign then paid them no never mind once he was elected. Tell me, what would be in it for me to support Main at this point beyond defeating Messerle? They are actually more alike than they are apart.
MG, I understand your disappointment, it’s less than mine. Be angry with voter apathy. Those who failed to take less than 5 minutes to mark a ballot deserve the dream team; perhaps nightmare team. Three who have never managed a large organization. Three who don’t have a clue how to manage a government organization. I agree with Mr. Wiley. I’m not so sure Main “betrayed his supporters”. I probably would not be his supporter at any other time. Main must immediately surround himself with open supporters of all types and flavors. Too many listened to the daily paper crap. Clarkie is wearing his look what I accomplished badge. Yesterdays editorial is the opening salvo leading to November. And, please don’t forget, it was MG who was convinced, as was Robert Bob Main, that Alan Campbell Parry was the best of those seeking the job. Parry fooled all of us.
Can’t argue with that, aghast!
Voters pretty much rejected this website too, but I won’t ignore you. 🙂
We can not afford the worlds dream team. we need to elect Bob and Don. if we get the dream team in the county resources will be sold for pennies on the dollar. So lets all work together to defeat the dream team
Main would have to convince me it would be different this time and I don’t see him changing, especially with how arrogant he is about taking back Sanne’s votes.
Very disappointed in Coos County voters but turnout should still be higher in November. Main will not receive my vote, he caused all this when he picked Parry and Messerle and I won’t reward him now.
Voters rejected MarkM outright so I would ignore him
All things being equal, Messerle only needs 18% of Sanne’s vote to win. But then again, what do I know?
