I want to thank M and Randy and Phil and all the rest of you who put so much time and energy and passion into this election. Please don’t think your time and energy wasn’t heard and used to try to change the direction of this county. I really had hoped things turned out differently, but even this could never have been done without each and every one of you. How damn boring would this life be if we didn’t have passionate people willing to stand up and speak out to power.
It’s really got me down today, but I have to believe something positive will come out of it. Somehow I feel great disappointment, but not raw desperation at what happened yesterday. Somehow I think this will lead to some real good. Thank you all for all you do to keep us informed. Every minute of your time spent has not gone unnoticed. Thank you mucho.
I think the people will rise up and vote Bob and Don in and they will write in a canidate for position #2
I find it beyond discouraging. This county is a mess, and getting worse, and to hand it back into the arms of these guys is unbelievable.
But you do indeed get what you pay for here.
The people have spoken, eh?
These races will hinge upon who is perceived to do the least amount of damage to the environment and Bob Main is only marginally better than Messerle, if at all. Gurney should be able to topple Cribbins on that account but number two …. gasp! We have to launch a write-in campaign for Sanne or another strong environmentally responsible candidate
RUGullible
yes i did not do well in this race this time. I will not give up.I do not hide behind a screen name i have and will always post using my real name. If the three that got the most votes win our county goverment will be changed. These three represent special interest and not the people of Coos county. At no time did I say that the forest needed to be clear cut. I support sustianable cutting of the forest. I do support mining of chromite as long as the forest is kept in a sustainable rotation, and the minerals rights are not sold. The exporting of raw logs is a double edged sowrd. It does create jobs but how many more job could be created if we required the logs be made into finished products. Please support Don and Bob. Agin I know i did not win in this election, but I would like people to write in Rickey Wiley for position #2
Thanks
Rickey Wiley
The real winners last night, Pettit, Barton and PAC money. Not a surprise here. When it’s Nobama vs Mitt in November things will be different. Low turn out. Most Messerle support was downtown and surrounding Coos Bay. If Main convinces the people that he WILL represent all, he’s a winner. Pals Bishop and Sweet leave little choice. Same message. Cribbins got the Tribe vote. Gurney must get himself better known in Coos Bay and North Bend. Watch for Messerle to use the vote as a mandate to start administrator process. Problem, unless Gurney and Main are elected, we get the same uncooperative spirit that we enjoy with Messerle and Parry. Wiley should accept the fact that he did not win.
Roughly 12k to 15k voters voted. Almost half of those went straight for the SCDC/worldlink choices, and the other half was mostly split among the second and third choices, who represent the same interests. I don’t think any candidate running in this race showed enough difference in their positions on major issues to warrant more participation by the rest of the registered voters.
I think Ricky Wiley is right, with choices we have left before us. Except the write-in will need to have a different vision for the area, then what we’ve seen represented by the port/SCDC/bacoc/boc. When did any candidate speak out against clear-cutting old growth forests, against whole log exports, against LNG import/export, against coal exports, and privatizing most government business. If any one running represented these interests, I missed their speech.
I would like to say thank you to all who supported me thru this campaign.I also going to support Bob Main position #1 and Don Gurney for position #3. I would like it if you would write Rickey Wiley position #2
Thanks
Rickey Wiley
