It has been quiet these last few days while everyone awaits expected movement from citizens and staff after the curious machinations regarding the solid waste department but don’t let this calm lull you into complacency. The commissioners cannot expect that the mishandling and neglect of a multimillion dollar asset voted and paid for by the people will not have consequences to those responsible… but information gathering and strategic planning do take a bit of time.

Meanwhile, Fred Messerle has updated his campaign site and appears to be running almost exclusively on the premise that the highly contested “majority” structure advisory committee recommendations should be adopted despite a minority report countering those recommendations.

“Now is the time to for a leader who will use intellect, pragmatism and collaborative problem solving.” This quote is available on the front page and begs the question since Messerle hasn’t used “intellect, pragmatism and collaborative problem solving” so far during his interim appointment, why should we expect him to start if he happens to be elected? Messerle finished college and went straight to work for his dad and his entire career has been in the family business which hardly translates as a wealth of experience or qualifies him to manage a county. Of course, he doesn’t actually want to manage the county, instead he wants to hire someone else to do it for him, an administrator or CEO so we can go from three management silos to just one.

This Wednesday the three candidates for commissioner position number one, Messerle, Randy Sanne and incumbent Bob Main will square off in a forum at the Chamber luncheon at the Mill Casino beginning at 11:30.
