The World newspaper has pummeled ORCCA recently for what appears to be nothing more than billing errors associated with installing new software and accusations of arrogance from pantries dropped from their food distribution network. The paper has not uncovered any evidence that ORCCA is misappropriating funds or misdirecting food and despite dropping a couple of pantries, ORCCA continues to distribute record amounts of food to the hungry.
Recently, ORCCA released a statement to the press explaining the billing errors as a problem with the Primarius software they were required to install by Oregon Food Bank. The press release declares that no one has been over billed. A staff member, Rollie Lobsinger, spoke with KCBY about the billing issues and may have misspoke prompting ORCCA’s board chair to qualify his remarks. The World printed another inflammatory headline – ORCCA retracts billing issue accusations. ORCCA has since explained that the problem is not the software itself but internal processes as a result of migrating to a new software program, something we have all experienced. To date, ORCCA has not retracted its claim that no one has been over billed. ORCCA CEO Mary Schoen-Clark explains that discussion of general billing issues was not a violation of these terms as it was not specific to the mediation but the paper goes on to accuse ORCCA of violating the terms of mediation with the Charleston Food Pantry by speaking with media.
KCBY, on the other hand chose a different approach…
ORCCA clarifies comments made by Lobsinger
ORCCA C.E.O. Mary Schoen-Clark wrote in an e-mail to KCBY that South Coast Food Share Director Rollie Lobsinger was incorrect in comments to KCBY about their Primarius billing system, provided by Oregon Food Bank.
She went on to write, “There is not a problem with the program but rather a process glitch. The process team from Oregon Food Bank generously assisted Oregon Coast Community Action to develop a process that will prevent problems in the future. ORCCA thanks OFB for their ongoing support and assistance.”
As an outsider looking in, it is hard not to view the paper’s persistent assault on a local food bank with amazement and contempt. What is the paper’s aim here? Even if someone is “arrogant” the food is getting to where it needs to go… what is the point of this ongoing attack?
The paper looks like a bully as it throws stones at ORCCA while it ignores the Port’s lies and whitewashes ORC’s non-compliance issues.
I saw this too, and wondered why The World is behaving so badly about this. I think this started immediately AFTER they announced their bankruptcy. To drive up readership. Now it appears the folks in Charleston got some major problems of their own, but the World chooses not to recognize that. They want female heads to fall. Which will be very helpful in this county and our unemployed. Brilliant strategy boys.
For whatever reason, The World isn’t even trying to be a reputable newspaper. His little “surveys’ worded to uphold his cronies at SCDC Chamber of Consorts, etc. I thought when We The People paid for their brand new diggs downtown Coos Bay, they might show a little respect to the taxpayers, but no, they want more and more, and they want it now. And to hell with the taxpayers, and the out of work, and those looking for any job to feed their kids.
$1,500,000.00 for your new diggs SCDC, and what do we get from it?
Jon, why don’t you come on here yourself instead of sending your Little Napolian Al, he’s not up to the job.
Children are going hungry in this county, and these Einsteins take on a food bank. They don’t mind the Port Porking them for hundreds of thousands of dollars, they grab their ankles every time and squeal in pleasure for getting screwed. If that is not the truth, then tell me what is.
If the Port of Coos Bay stopped operating, only did the paperwork for ships coming in, all thirty a year, how would it effect this county? What would we miss? What would we not have? Other than money for our schools and infrastructure.
One of you Port supporters care to answer that?
