Numbers are growing but I don’t have a firm count yet. Occupiers from Curry County, Roseburg, Eugene, Medford and Ashland are planning to protest the proposed coal and LNG export terminals, the 36″ 234 mile pipeline and raw log exports as well as stand in solidarity with the West Coast Port Blockade tomorrow beginning at 10AM in front of the Port offices at 125 Central in Coos Bay.
According to Richard Haynes, a consulting natural resource economist formerly with the US Forest Service, as a rule of thumb, there are about five milling jobs for every million board feet of logs manufactured domestically, while there is only one job exporting those same logs. National Timber Severance Tax and Wood Manufacturing Tax Credit
Mr. President as you know the potential to create quality green jobs for the working class is vitally available in the work place democracy movement in this country. The capacity for this working class solution to returning our manufacturing jobs to America while focusing on developing income for low and middle class Americans is consistent with natural law and the power of democratic thinking…As you are aware the UN has declared 2012 as the year of the cooperatives…an ideal time to manifest worker owned coops as the solution to returning and creating jobs in America. As Jefferson stated so many years ago, the leaders of a good government “shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned” (Portable Jefferson 293). Although these principles of protecting labor from exploitation were lost in modern America, they are now found in the worker-owned democratically managed cooperative movement…which is a natural solution to the problems inherent in imbalanced use of corporations in American industry. The great protectors of democracy and liberalism of the centuries have seen the advancement of corruption caused by corporate greed…return the lost jobs to America and put the ownership and management of America’s new age manufacturing systems in the hands of the people. As Jefferson took action against the Federalists, he would have agreed to take action against any consolidation of power generated from an imbalance of corporations and cooperatives and the need to mainfest work place democracy or return the means of production tom the hands of the people. In 1863, the great emancipator, Abraham Lincoln warned that “corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow…until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed” (Lincoln Encyclopedia 40) The time to development worker owned manufacturing cooperatives all across this nation is now…the resources to design and guide the development of coops exists across the planet…there are localized organizations capable of managing the development of cooperatives…what is needed is national leader(s). A leader to utilize the inherent qualities of worker owned manufacturing coops to manifest a national movement to create jobs for the low and middle class working class, a movement designed to return manufacturing jobs to America while inherently strengthening our nation.
marky mark with the facts…
The “Occupy Movement” is really just an unemployment bonanza… What else needs to be said?
look how mad that made you “themguys”
does someone have saggy boobies?
So, what did Occupy PDX accomplish today? From the Oregonian:
“What started in the morning as a picket line with chants and marching became more of a party Monday afternoon as protesters the Port of Portland had shut down the evening shifts at Terminals 5 and 6.
Occupy demonstrators, some who’d brought portable potties and food, set up a deejay on a trailer and started a dance party. Others started skateboarding or napped off their early morning in preparation for a second round of protests this evening.”
While the OWS partied on, the 99% lost a days work and the 1% yawned. They will make it up tomorrow. Meanwhile, who will remember this “party” in a month.
OWS, you’re taking over the wrong party.
“I won’t even touch themguy’s post as its obviously a result of poor fore thought.”
Humm, a result of poor fore thought, you poor thing, you’ve heard that one waaaay too many times haven’t you? Now I know why you are so angry and frustrated in your anger/dependence on female mammary glands, now it all makes sense. I’m truly sorry about “that” come. No wonder you don’t know the difference between a brass container with burning coals to burn trash in, and a beautiful silk whiff of lace held together by satin ribbons the color of a virgins’ blushing cheek……………………………………………………………………..
Well I’m going to roll up my mammary glands for the night and get some rest, it’s been a very busy day
Get some help come.
There are proven benefits to nursing your children for at least a year. Especially our boy babies.
The results of not doing so are quite evident on this blog.
“come on now
December 12, 2011 – 3:40 pm
quite the interesting group down at the port office today btw… you had some kid in a V for Vendetta mask, elderly ladies who elected not to wear an effective brazier, and other interestingly Coos Bay specific folk…
here’s a thought, hire some Hooters girls… Your cause might work out better”
Your obvious preoccupation with the female breast belies your addiction to the Publics’ Teat as well. We don’t know who you are, but ya got Mamas’ milk dripping down yer chin sweetie, you little Public Piglets just won’t give up that teat without a fight , huh? Okay.
Oh you Brainiac you, here’s something else for you to “suck” on:
A brazier is a container for fire, generally taking the form of an upright standing or hanging metal bowl or box. Used for holding burning coal as well as fires,
Some of those , “elderly ladies who elected not to wear an effective brazier”?
Are one hell of a lot smarter than you are sonny, they even know how to spell
Saggy breasts, huh? There are more important things going on around you right now than obsessing on womens’ mammary glands.
Grow up a little, you might be interesting to talk to, as it is, you’re just an emotionally , sexually stunted pretender. Of what I have not figured out yet. Let us know what you want to be when you grow up ‘come’.
i agree hemp would be a nice supplement to our economy… thats because I believe in campitalism. You can’t have it both ways ladies and gemrs

Remember Henry Ford’s plastic hemp car? http://youtu.be/4rgDyEO_8cI Stronger and lighter than steel, hemp (not the kind used in a bong) was criminalized to satisfy DuPont who couldn’t compete with the cheap, fast growing natural fiber.
capitalism has led us to where we are now indeed… computers… alternative energy… the best healthcare in the world… Pick any one thing that you are privy to being a citizen of the year 2011. You can thank capitalism for that. You can thank hard work, blood, sweat, and tear of your forefathers for that. Get some respect. You try to shut down the ports? Do you not realize the only people hurt are people who actually hold jobs and seek a daily wage? Your “protesters” are largely unemployed entitlement seekers. Do you really think any employer would give someone the day off to protest business? Waht a joke.
You can’t seperate our civilization from capitalism, they are one in the same.
I’m not mad, I just think you are foolish at best. I won’t even touch themguy’s post as its obviously a result of poor fore thought.
“How to propose to fund this? A multi million dollar endeavor with whos money? And whats the payback on this? Royalties to the county? Economic impact?
By bow you can see that this is an unviable solution”
We could start defunding SCDC, Chamber of Consorts, and esp., The Port of Coos Bay.
Come? Think what this county could have done with the 300 million dollars they gobbled down in ten years.
THAT is how it will be done. The pigs at the trough better be lookin fer some mash now.. Mama’s had enough of the greedy , selfish little piglets that have had their way with her for far too long.
Time to wean the pigs !
C.O.N.
I don’t know why my thoughts have made you so angry. I asked for imaginative ideas and get a contemptuous rant in response. Your capitalist faith has led us to where we are now – the brink. It is obvious that we need to change from a competitive society to a cooperative one. The future of your children and grandchildren is at stake. Right now.
a hippie pow-wow might sound sweet, but it would never work. cannabis could never support our civilization, and our level of development is truly so far beyond the PLUR movement that beliefs in it are entirely social at best.
The economy will always prevail, stop pissing into the wind
oh and “negative ion forrest”? give me a break, I bet you fall for every informercial you see. You must wear seven bracelets everyday
Colaldrio,
How to propose to fund this? A multi million dollar endeavor with whos money? And whats the payback on this? Royalties to the county? Economic impact?
By bow you can see that this is an unviable solution. There would be no way to fund this through traditional mediums (established financial institutions), the customer base would be so small that costs would be astronomical (ever heard the term ‘elitist’?) The county wouldn’t see 1% of the royalties that LNG or coal exporting would bring (which it is in DIRE NEED of now).
Time to go back to school kiddo, economics reside in the land of resources.
Hell, even the results of these practices are in question. I love accupuncture, but if I need chemotherapy I sure as hell wouldn’t place my faith in anything else.
Imagine this:
The southern Oregon coast as an alternative medical hub. Where people come to take in our beautiful woods and shores loaded with healthful negative ions and be helped to restore good health by acupuncturists, naturopaths, and others practicing integrative medicine. Imagine the old air force base location in Charleston as a retreat with an incredible view where restorative practitioners treat those who need it. We already have a core of those practitioners now.
Lets build on the positive.
Power to the People!
I like that Colandrio, tomorrow is a first step toward freeing ourselves from the dirty fossilized industries of the past
I am always amazed by the lack of imagination in those who pretend to lead our county. The future lies in environmentally friendly shipping. I see a day when our boat building enterprise builds the ships run by solar sails that can quickly deliver cargo to small ports like our own. Where we’ll have an American IKEA using our lumber to make chic shaker furniture and modular homes. Where our uncontaminated fisheries supply a hungry population with natural food. Where our clear cuts grow cannabis for clothing and hemp oil, medicine, and paper. Paper that is made without toxic chemicals and shipped round the world on solar boats. Where Organic Valley milk and cheese and butter is sought by more and more who seek relief from the phony food being foisted upon us. We could have a bountiful future without uncontrolled growth, without the greed that feeds the 1%, without dredging the harbor for mammoth ships that transport toxic energy produced by toxic methods which endanger everyone on our planet.
Imagine that.
Lake County is doing some exciting things along those lines.
http://sustainable-lake-county-oregon.com/default.aspx
Toland is right, plus if we develop community owned forests and have them certified as “organic” we can manufacture unique architectural products to market to eco-green conscientious buyers and developers. We can also have community owned fisheries and agriculture and my favorite COMMUNITY OWNED ENERGY. Read more about local forest ownership at http://coastrange.org
I’ll go one further than MAGIX. In addition to at least 5 milling jobs and the resulting employment of other support businesses such as retail, etc. we could always move into secondary manufacture of goods. Not just the simple milling jobs or paper mills but furniture, etc. Why are we so interested in helping Japan, China etc. and not helping to keep our own peope employed?
There is something wrong with the simple scenario of exporting our logs, even after companies have debarked them they STILL send them out.. Isn’t it time to pay attention to OUR economy and our workers?
Thanks for your blog!
MarkM. Don’t you mean Occupy WITH the Democratic Party on Wednesday Nights at 5PM?
http://mgx.com/blogs/2011/11/25/occupy-everywhere-whats-next-for-the-movement/
The regressive progressive may have a recessive gene
The Regressive Progressive Voice of Coos County speaks.
How does one wave fingers while in the perpetual circle jerk that is Coos County politics ?
Apart from exporting raw logs, my fingers are waving downwards.
Want change? Occupy the Democratic Party.
