According to The World Jeff Bishop, CEO of the Port of Coos Bay has resigned his position to take a job as the city manager of Blanchard, Oklahoma. Managing a city with a population of 7,600 and a local paper that doesn’t have a website appears to be a lateral career move at best and it looks like he is stepping into a hot bed of contention. Watch the video, Blanchard reminds me of Lakeside.
So Mary, you are “dithering” now? Shame on you M ! Dithering about instead of pretending to be somebody, anybody in this backwater county of Coos Bay.
I can’t figure out if LIttle Al is so upset with Mary because she is a she?
Or if it’s just because she’s so damn much smarter than he is and it chaps his ass.
Ya got to do better than this Little Al, it ain’t flying.
As I expected. You want to dither away the time in public meetings where you can do what you do best. But time is of the essence and immediate action imperative.
No worries – there are plenty of citizens in this County who are willing to do the heavy lifting on your behalf, and they’ll do what is necessary to help the County make ends meet. You may not like how they get there, but if you’re not willing to get in the game then you’re really not in a position to complain about the gameplan.
If Al thinks launching a petition to raise property taxes without public hearings is a good idea, he should just do that. Personally, I think it is a bad idea
wow Little Al, that’s some serious challenge you are giving to one woman, when what? Thirty of you guys can’t put jack squat together?
As far as ordering Mary to do this or that, who the hell do you think YOU are? Just a little self-important cog in the merry-go-round that is Coos County.
I’d say Mary is doing just fine, she’s evidently inserted a burr up your sorry arse, far enough you don’t seem to be able to budge it. That’s good, makes a man think twice about being a perfect arse hole. Usually.
Self important little man and his self important “business” friends don’t like the truth shoved up their snouts.
Keep it up Mary, they’ll be so busy trying to remove burrs, they’ll shut up and let others put this county back on line.
They hate government, they are tea baggers, and worse.
More of the same: boorish name-calling, finger-pointing and complaining.
My challenge to you stands, Mary: either jump in and help to find a solution, or do the honorable thing and put a lid on all the B.S. Go get the signatures necessary to put a property tax increase on the next ballot. Do something productive with your time and contribute to the FIX. You want County services? Then DO something that will help preserve them. All the mud-slinging, name-calling and complaining resolves nothing and fixes nothing, so what’s the point? Get off the sidelines and jump in. I think you’ll find it infinitely more gratifying than your current profession.
Your county employees, Commissioners and 64,000 residents are depending on YOU, Mary, to come through and drive a property tax initiative. You have the skills, the know-how, the expertise and the leadershipo skills, and there’s no one else that will step up and do this if you don’t. We’re depending upon YOU, Mary.
I agree, he’s jumping ship, just like the big fat rat he is. He and his cronies’ fantasy of turning our port into some sort of mega LNG facility to create a few local jobs are on its last leg. Our community can do better. It’s a shame that our local business leaders and labor organizations can’t see this. The thousands of hours and dollars put into this boondoggle could have been put to better use trying to attract industries that better fit our local needs.
Gene, the state is no longer oblivious to what is happening at the Port or what a dismal failure it has been for economic development (just say a little bird told me)
Six to nine months if not sooner, anonymouse, and I wonder if he will be held harmless even though he doesn’t work here anymore.
If that little town can afford over $200 for every man, women, and child to replace his $151,000.00 salary, then they can have him at their peril. As far as evading trouble goes, this port and its associates have proven there is no one in Oregon that’s going to investigate their actions. The OAG admits he is a lobbyist for business, His office can see no crime in what they do.
I agree with Mr. Chasm.
This is just an unfounded guess, but, I think there is a shit storm of problems 6 – 9 months down the road that Mr. Bishop can see heading right for him and he is getting the hell out of Dodge before it all blows up.
We shall see.
You would think just as Mr. Bisho[p gets a railroad going and there an LNG terminal and big business development deals to be made he would stick around for the harvest of jobs and the Kudos that would bring. But no, he wants to move thousands of miles away to a big reduction in pay. This is a rat jumping off a sinking ship. The state no longer has cash to dump on this boondoggle of a port with nmumerous shady backroom deals. Jeff Bishop is getting out while the getting is good and before the regulators show up for explanations. Good riddance and who is going to be his replacement? Be sure to do a thorough backround examination of who ever it might be.
