As the Coos County Commission bulldozes past revenue remedies that don’t require an act of Congress in favor of volatile market driven commodities trading it is worth paying attention to the results of the Ohio vote to repeal anti-union laws signed by Governor John Kasich.
The question for many is whether to interpret Tuesday’s Ohio referendum as simply a rejection of Republican overreach in a heavily unionized state or more broadly as a barometer of a battleground state that could resonate with voters nationwide.
Whether you agree the current commission is guilty of Republican overreach or not they have demonstrated a glaring contempt for public workers by injecting committees of unelected citizens, many with no direct experience in the public sector to tell our staff and their department heads how to do their jobs. Hopefully, this next election cycle will be as demonstrative of the general public’s view on the slash and burn tactics of Bob Main, Fred Messerle and Cam Parry as the Ohio vote yesterday.
