Make no mistake that the Coos County Commission, despite no supporting data to justify their ambitions, are actively seeking the “most expeditious legislative path” to turn over management of the CBWR from the BLM to the Coquille Tribe. Long time residents may recall a 1996 advisory vote of the citizens that overwhelmingly opposed a similar move by 85% but a past and now the current board of commissioners contend this move will magically cure all the county’s financial ills. Magically because the board has no data on which to base its faith based decision.

The commissioners and the Coquille Tribe have provided no answers to the many questions printed on this blog and sent to them privately and without any mandate from the people are working to pull an end run on the citizens of this county to transfer management of 58,000 acres of federal land without benefit of an environmental or economic impact analysis. If they are successful the only thing the citizens will have an opportunity to contribute to is an agreement between the tribe and the county.

The citizens have paid for Commissioner Parry to travel to DC to find a way to pull this off. A live hearing is underway with the House Natural Resource committee.

Hopefully, I can complete a video and in depth breakdown of what is happening on this issue later today.
