A selection process marred by an unauthorized executive session is under investigation by county counsel but that has not stopped the swearing in of Fred Messerle as commissioner tomorrow. Today, during a budget meeting, Messerle was seated at the bench with the other commissioners in a graphic display of support for his appointment.
In an email from Oubonh White, she will try to address the concerns raised over deliberations held in executive session related to filling the elected position Messerle was appointed, by tomorrow’s board of commission meeting. It also appears, from the agenda item below, that White may officially replace the absent Jacqui Haggerty as new counsel.
Resolution 11-05-048P, In the Matter of a Promotion for Oubonh White Effective May 1, 2011
The county has made four appointments to elected office since February, three, I believe, since Haggerty went out on leave. This raises a specter over whether executive session deliberations occurred during any of these other appointments for elected positions.
Will let you know what I learn…
They will no doubt swear him in and proceed with business as usual but I agree – we have to insist on the audio for these deliberations and any other deliberations that occurred during executive session related to filling the assessor, surveyor, etc…
I’m with you, fred, they should hold off on any swearing in until the public have had the chance to hear the deliberations
The only swearing should be by the citizens of this county. We are not mushrooms. The people will grow without being kept in the dark and fed lots of bullcrap.
