Senator Jeff Merkley visited Coos County today, with a ninety minute stop in North Bend to field questions and update the county on what is happening in DC. Merkley had attempted allow with Senator Udall to reform the filibuster rules, as MGx reported on this blog before. Sadly, the rules change narrowly missed passing, but Merkley suggests it will be reconsidered in the next Congress.
Merkley spoke with citizens after the town hall style meeting and admitted he may reintroduce the Feingold amendemnt to require the president to produce a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Several local elected officials, including Commissioner Bob Main and Commissioner ‘appointee’ Cam Parry attended the event.
