Nikki Whitty attended today’s commission meeting via telephone. Several people objected and the legality of remote attendance was questioned. Whitty, who recently underwent major surgery is recuperating but assured those listening any medication she was taking was not affecting her judgment or her votes and she sounded strong over the phone. Nevertheless, Whitty eventually excused herself from the meeting early, citing discomfort from sitting up, and raising the legitimate question of whether she is really fit to fulfill her duties.
Recalled assessor, Adam Colby, will be replaced by first advertising for the position listing necessary requirements. The county commission and a committee of citizens, as yet un-chosen, will evaluate the applications, run extensive background checks and make a choice. Any choice is subject to the approval of the Oregon Department of Revenue.
