Sunday, The Register Guard did a front page story on the local battle between homeowners and Oregon Resources, chromite strip miners. The story was notable for bringing up past mining practices of ORC staff and printing the concerns of Commissioner Bob Main. Today, The Oregonian picked up the story from the AP and printed a shorter version.
A quick look at The World shows they picked up AP stories about teen texting, baby boomer drivers turning 65 and a lawsuit in Umatilla County, but nothing about a local issue for local readers.
The title is rhetorical. Considering the two largest papers in Oregon thought the piece was newsworthy and The World didn’t supports the local perception of bias in favor of the miners. Rather than letting their readers make a choice, The World editor likes to make it for them. SHAME!
The title of your piece must be in jest. The World (not even the local) prints what it wants. The World is not a NEWS paper. By the time most folks receive their paper, its OLDS not NEWS. Many articles of importance are days old. Fridays news is published Tuesdays. Do you expect an editor who sits on the board of the chamber of commerce – an organization that does not agree with your guy Bob Main or Bob Main supporters to report anything other than positive about ORC.
