Recently, I posted about the poor writing employed in many of The World editorials and sent an email to the editor, Clark Walworth to that effect. Today, I received an email asking if my comments were intended to be a letter to the editor. My original intent was just to share my feelings with Walworth, that Coos County deserves higher quality editorials, but I told him, ‘sure, go ahead’ but asked for a quotable response to my email. In short, after a brief exchange he declined to comment.

The journalistic bar has been set lower and lower and Coos County readers have come to expect less and less from their local papers. Unless readers start demanding excellence there is little motivation to improve, therefore, I encourage everyone who feels there is room for improvement in local media to DEMAND IT. Even small town papers have a budget for competence and they owe their subscribers no less.
