A comment by themguys quotes an editorial at The World bemoaning the cheeky gall of an apparent flim-flam developer having fun in the sun at taxpayer expense.
Look — there’s Gary in a floral shirt, dining at Hotel Fortuna.
There’s Gary, shirtless, sunning his belly on the shore of Lake Nicaragua.
Here are the smiling waitresses at “Cafe Tropical.†And the go-go girls at “El Club.â€
All that’s missing is a photo of Gary’s backside, mooning Coos Bay taxpayers.
While I definitely agree with and appreciate the outrage one can only ask, “where was the outrage when the taxpayers were fleeced during the building of the airport?” Where is the righteous indignation about public agencies chipping in public money to SCDC when so far nothing has come of it?
There are significant disconnects between one and the other and I believe the media is partially to blame for not providing a clear analysis of what happens with taxpayer money in Coos County. The new editor at The World came to town and immediately donned his dapper little hat and overcoat and made it a point to align with the very movers and shakers that led the county into the economic condition it now holds. An editorial explaining his support of the ‘business as usual’ approach might be more useful than feigning outrage at this character while ignoring everything else.
Speaking of characters the website of a an occasional poster here ‘Coos Bay Thunder Pot’ was rightly shut down by WordPress yesterday. WordPress deserves a big round of applause for recognizing that hate mongering, homophobic, mysogynist, slanderous and pedophile type behavior have no place in the public domain. That said the cowardly ‘Mr Overmeier’, as he called himself, has a mirror site up and running to try and maintain his supply of narcissistic supply. He will keep hiding but eventually he will be discovered and hopefully expelled from the area.
That would be wishful thinking. After all, look how long Jim Bice has succeeded in spewing his venom and pretending to be a journalist in Coos County. Like Thunder Pot, he just makes accusations but never checks with subject of his vitriol or makes any effort to obtain the other side of the story. Astonishing how many people regard themselves as experts on me and yet have never met me. Thunder Pot is a psychotic, twisted character and too cowardly to show his face but brazen, in your face, Bice is more a caricature of Limbaugh, Boss Tweed and Archie Bunker just trying to sell advertising. Unlike WordPress, Bi-Coastal Media doesn’t have the ethical or professional standards to weigh the harm he does to the County and democracy against any perceived benefits to their short term cash needs.
Then there are the drifters that want to quit working after they rip you off for hundreds of dollars worth of software and then try to claim unemployment. Or the ‘business men’ who threaten baseless litigation hoping you will just settle more unearned cash upon them to not have the bother. Or those who threaten litigation so that you will not file to recover advanced money and breached contracts. Or the companies that refuse payment for their services and hold your parts hoping you will pay someone else debt.
Lets not forget the harpies too.
These people exist everywhere, certainly, but Coos County has way more than its fair share.
The chickadees and stool pigeons all flock together, it seems, with the cuckoos, harpies and opportunistic robber birds and dark leprechauns.

He told me he wants to be a Packrat instead of a Stool Pidgeon,you know Packrats, they’ll steal anything from anyone in the most stealth manner. Always taking what they can get from anyone who lets their guard down and trusts their belongings in their vicinity?
I told him “he need not wish to be a Packrat, as he has already mastered the skills needed to part honest people from their possessions.”
Isn’t that just the strangest thing to happen?
Maybe I dreamed it, not sure.

There are some wonderful, hard working, intelligent, caring people here. Then there are the studiously stupid. The fiercely feckless. The proudly un-conversant unlettered. Those that pridefully strut around taking care of the little people, spending their tax dollars and segregating those taxpayers from gala ribbon cutting events paid for by the taxpayer.
Rise up, you hairy unwashed, please!!! Coos County needs you.

Truthfully, I have never in my life seen so many sharks in one shallow pool in my life. It’s like, if you are here, we’re gonna git some of whatever ya got lady. And if you prove smarter than me, well then, leave yer bodyguard home and I’ll scare ya some more.
Weak men acting like they got some big stick to swing around, when they actually have absolutely no stick. Overcompensating if I’ve ever seen it.
And the people living here, don’t even seem to mind, do they? The pipelines, two airports, no real airline,River Pilots who decide they want to be Train Engineers now, “mommy mommy, i want to be a conductor”, letting Stufflebutt and Wittless spend one million dollars of their money to pave a perfectly good road so a private company can use a foreign company to mine their private property, with not one cent of income to the taxpayers for the priviledge.
Like I said, I’ve never seen a community who has so much money moving through it, and nothing sticks, nothing. I’m sorry, the salaries continue don’t they?
These hucksters come here and they never leave, why should they? Look at the public money they get, and no one crosses them in their pursuit to fleece the public.
The failure of the recall proves my point. Jon Barton and his wife getting him elected on “his past history in bringing the new beautiful empty airport terminal to us”. And the voters said, oh well, maybe the F’ing will be more enjoyable this time and elected him. I gave up on that one.
I think it would be nice if we just put up two huge billboards, one at the south end of the county and one at the north end, clearly stating the obvious:
“WELCOME TO COOS COUNTY YOU GIT A PRIZE IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR WALLET WHEN YOU LEAVE, he he he.”
And the people living here don’t even seem to mind.
They git it in the rear year after year after year, as the Movers and Shakers attend their widdle luncheons and seminars and chirp around like pleasant little sparrows. Excitedly selling their widdle raffle tickets and telling each other how important they are.
