President Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan took a step closer to passage Friday as it cleared the House on a 246-183 vote — with no support from Republicans.

Senate action was slated to act Friday night. And after days of negotiation and hand-holding, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) remained confident his fragile 60-vote bipartisan coalition would prevail.

Friday’s continued partisan divide in the House was extraordinary give all the changes made in the package since it first left the House in January. New tax breaks were added in negotiations with the Senate, spending substantially reduced and the overall cost of the package scaled back by more than $30 billion.

UPDATE: Greg Walden, Oregon’s sole republican representative kept ranks with his party and voted against the bill. Rather than impose upon his conviction that the stimulus money will harm the economy I suggest Oregon’s 5th District abstain from accepting any federal funds from this bill.
