…Commissioner Nikki Whitty supports the cuts, arguing it makes more sense to be proactive now. Plenty of residents in Coos County agree, she said.

“There’s a vocal minority,” Whitty said. “But there are also people who agree with what’s going on, who have the confidence in their board of commissioners.”

There you are. If you have a knowledgeable opinion and are urgently concerned about public safety and dare be ‘vocal’, your opinion does not count. Reportedly her view is that it is just the workers and their families objecting and while it may be true they have been the most vocal it is also true they are the ones best positioned to know what they are talking about. Again, Whitty’s complete lack of regard for public safety is astounding.

It is this type of thinking by county leadership that has forced the recall of Kevin Stufflebean. There will be a lengthy follow-up article this week in The Sentinel.
