Please read Councilor Kathy Hagen’s letter to the editor in the November 12, 2008 edition of The Sentinel regarding the status of her position on the Coquille City Council. Ms Hagen states
…the City Charter requires elected officials to live in the city limits, therefore I am not eligible to sit on the Council.
Ms Hagen also had to step down from the School Board for the same reason. If there is any confusion as to the circumstances leading up to the appointment of Dian Courtright to the City Council and the formalities involved it may be due in no small part to Hagen’s awkward handling of her status. Nevertheless, the council was polled by council president Loren Wiese and agreed unanimously to accept the next highest vote getter to the council.
