Yes, after first trying to use GPS navigation on a different phone I broke down and purchased an Iphone, the new one with the much lauded 3G network speeds. Well, all I can say is, grrrrrrr. The damn thing drops calls, will not connect to the internet and, and, AND, I cannot tether it, wireless or otherwise, to my laptop as a modem without a funky workaround and then I only connect at Edge speeds. GRRRRRR!!!!
Presumably there are all sorts of possible reasons that Iphone users are having the same problems that I am, including a “blame the carrier” perspective. All this may be true but I can attest that I recently, in a fit of desperation, also purchased the new Blackberry Bold, Blackberry’s 3G phone. So I can firmly attest that while sitting in precisely the same place and attempting to do the exact same things, the Blackberry succeeds in accessing the AT&T network where the Iphone does not and I have not had one dropped call.
The Iphone presumably has a firmware update that supposedly resolves some of these problems. My Iphone may not have automatically installed the new firmware because, oh my gosh, it hardly ever accesses the net!
Anyway, for those considering one or the other, my advice despite some of the really cool features and ease of use of the Iphone, is to go with the tried and true Blackberry, at least for now. Oh, and I can connect via Bluetooth to my Mac laptop and my Windows laptop (even with a tether there). Pretty cool.
