Dian Courtright, founder of Concerned Citizens of Coquille, a human rights advocacy group borne out of public frustration with the local police department last summer has thrown her hat into the ring for city councilor. Four positions are up for renewal, Corky Daniels, Kathy Hagen, Fran Capehart and the mayor’s position held by Steve Britton. All incumbents have signed up to “re-up”. To date, the only challengers are John Spencer and Dian.
Time is running short, August 26 is the deadline to have your application in and a petition with a minimum of twenty qualified signatures in order to be on the ballot.
Many people have encouraged Dian to run and I am especially proud of her for stepping up to do her civic duty. She hopes to bring diversity, accessability and accountability to city governance. Yeah, Dian!!!!
ah ok. Thought maybe you had me confused with someone else.
To be honest, I’m not sure I could stop myself from telling some of the board members exactly what I thought of them. And that wouldn’t do anyone any good…so…I’ll pass.
sorry, just run…. I meant again for elective office, the ‘thankless job’.
again?
She is there for all the right reasons, she cares about the citizens and the town… I am soooo proud of her.
I wish you would run again
I just had the pleasure and the honor to sign up to support Dian in her bid for Council. Amazingly enough, she made no promises, spouted no “community values”, and appears to consider this endeavor seriously. She isn’t in it for fame or fortune. She’s doing it because she cares.
Thank You Dian, for being real!
Boy, do I agree with you on all counts.
Capehart should hand over the reins to someone new. Britton probably should stay although I am still a little bit on the fence on that one. Notwithstanding the difficulties with the city charter, he has allowed O’Connor to run a very lackadaisical ship… but I do think he wants to fix that.
Dian will be fantastic. She is a very honest person and calm and thoughtful. She will make sure she fully understands an issue, the consequences, long and short term, and the fiscal impact on the city before she casts a vote. I have full confidence in her.
congrats and good luck Dian. I’ve held an office, and it’s a thankless job, but I think you will do a great job.
My personal thoughts? Britton should stay…but it’s time for Fran Capehart to step down. It is time to face the present, not live in the past.
Best wishes
