When my oldest son, a Marine, left for war and crossed the border from Kuwait into Iraq in March 2003 I started writing my conscience. After two tours that young combat veteran’s mother is now an ardent peace activist and advocate for social, environmental and economic justice.
MGx has matured since those early vents and ramblings and now covers relevant and important local and regional matters in addition to national and global affairs.
You are right, mudstump, it takes a coordinated effort to find good candidates and get them elected. Yesterday, I attended a meeting in Coos Bay that has formed to do just that. We would love your input and intelligence if you would like to help.
Talk to Jessica at Colette’s she will give you a breakdown of all the things we are putting into motion
Magix,
I don’t think things will change locally unless there is a coordinated effort to find, train and organize to get good people elected to city councils, airport boards, county commissions, school boards etc… For too long we have had the good ole boy network running the show and if we can’t get a majority in these elected positions, I don’t think much will change unfortunately.
I have been frustrated with the inaction on the part of the Dems. I was pulling my hair out when they just kept funding the war after they got elected based on their promises to end the war. All the while Kucinich is saying, “just don’t bring a funding bill to the floor for a vote…that’s how we end the war.” I was thinking YES Dennis is right…why aren’t they listening?? You are probably right there is way more to this than we know and I suspect that all of the constitutional violations are going nowhere because the Dems want to inherit those powers. ??
I am afraid not if their own hands are dirty. Presumably, Pelosi knew full well about the ‘torture’ memos and, unlike Jane Harmon did not object. If she allows the House to go after Bush, et al on that topic, she goes down with them.
There is probably more of this going on than we will ever know. For this reason I feel that I have to work local, try and bring about change at the local level and insulate our community from the goings on in DC
It is amazing to me that for six years no one was even asking questions about what the Bush administration was doing. Will the Dems and the Independents use their slim majority to do what is necessary via “inherent contempt” if they continue to ignore subpoenas and claim “executive privilege?”
