It is horrible to be a victim and then be further victimized by the ‘justice’ system. Like you I was a victim of a violent crime and the DA refused to prosecute and ran the officer, a cum laude history major, who did the investigation off the sheriff’s department. Failure to prosecute, nonfeasance is a double whammy for the victim, a double betrayal.
Prosecuting your issues, or the people who starved the horses to death, or two officers for breaking someone’s neck are too hard. Better to just nail kids for smoking pot and sleeping it off in a car.
He is running for election unopposed but that doesn’t mean we have to vote for him. It will be a strong message if he wins the election with a low percentage of votes despite no opposition.
You have every right to be angry. In Leah’s case his refusal to prosecute may once again be to protect law enforcement and their bungling.
Ya know, I’ve been sitting here thinking about all the messed up cases here and really , doesn’t it really all boil down to R Paul Frazier? There are so many “in-between” things that happened (in Leah’s case) that most don’t realize. For example: My family hired a private investigator who gave me 10-12 pages of his “investigation” and charge my family $14,000. In other words, he did absolutely nothing and ripped of the grieving family of a murdered teen. I took EVERY paper I had regarding this and begged Mr. Frazier to prosecute. Do you think he ever did? No. Why? The man blatently ripped us off and the D.A. did nothing to him. Seriously – what does he prosecute? And how many cases has he won? Personally I have ALWAYS thought there was good enough circumstancial (sp?) evidence in Leah’s case to proscetute. I know. I know. He only gets one shot at it —–I say GO FOR IT and quit letting the bastard(s) responsible for her death breathe another breath of our air.

How is it, Cory, that in a supposedly ‘civil’ society leaders in Coos County or Coquille at least are so blatantly rude to their fellow citizens and constituents?
They even engage in name calling.
When the police chief isn’t labeling his detractors as disrespectful of the law his wife is trying to discredit businesses, newspapers and citizens. Or he has his lawyer doing the same thing and calling tax paying citizens ‘hairy unwashed’.
City council members, one anyway, try to put the local paper out of business and call citizens ‘malcontents’.
These are the people that represent the city!!!
The city manager has ignored peoples’ complaints and steadfastly sides with the chief over the people who pay his salary.
Now we have a former sheriff blaming the citizens for botching an investigation.
Why, Cory, why is this tolerated here? How is this allowed to persist? Do ‘Content Citizens of Coquille’ really want their city represented this way?
And what’s worse is The World won’t print my comment back to him. Guess ya can’t comment on their blog if you cancel your subscription. Something else they haven’t printed is that I told them they better hope the Leah Freeman case doesn’t get solved cause if it ever does they will have to rely on law enforcement for their story cause they weren’t gettin’ it from me. I’ll give it to a paper that wants to be fair. As for Mike Cook ……..well I think the responses after his comment tell it all……..
