Incumbent Commissioner John Sweet has raised almost $40K for his reelection and 26%, or $10K, is from one donor. Doctors of the Oregon Coast South (DOCS), through its Coalition for a Healthy Oregon PAC also invested $2.5K to Melissa Cribbins reelection. So my question is, and this is not rhetorical, what interest does the Medicaid billing management firm for OHP have in who sits on the board of commissioners? What does DOCS expect in return? What has Sweet already done to deserve so much support?
(Sweet and Cribbins are pro-gas, perhaps DOCS anticipates an influx of sick patients if Jordan Cove builds its LNG terminal).
Meanwhile, Cribbins has penned an anti-charter op-ed for The World opposing, amongst other things, the addition of two commissioners. “The cost of this change, including benefits, is a little less than $200,000 per year, at a time when the county’s budget is well known to be under serious financial constraints,” she writes. Nevertheless, Cribbins voted to hire a $5K per month lobbyist that has, so far, shown no return. Tomorrow she is considering a $15K annual raise to the HR Director Shari Jackson, part of the mean girls network, at a work session tomorrow morning in Rm 121.
