The county clerk’s office has released the vote tally for the eighteen precincts and John Sweet may have won the hearts and minds of midtown Coos Bay but he is vulnerable everywhere else. Sweet, the incumbent, lost the popular vote during the primary to challenger Don Gurney forcing a November runoff between the two. Because the voter turnout was so low last May these results may not be the most accurate barometer of how the county will vote this fall but all indications are that the Yahoos in the south county and rural Coos Bay and North Bend could put a new commissioner into office next January.
Remember it was Sweet who labeled us as “naysayers”. Not certain if he agrees with his pal Whitty that we are also Yahoos. Also, still no word from Cribbins or Sweet re question, the next SCCF meeting is scheduled for the 16th of June. SCCF Vice Chairman Sweet is scheduled to be present. Meaty items including an agreement with Jordan Cove is scheduled for discussion. Yet, without the county, and Cribbins assures us that the county is not yet a member of SCCF, there is no SCCF. Is anything that SCCF does legal and binding prior to the county vote to join that is scheduled for July 3? Is Sweet who at this point must represent himself, not the county, empowered to do anything? Certainly he cant vote as a representative of the county that is not a part of SCCF. Of course we are all waiting for Sweet to recuse himself at the July 3 meeting re SCCF as he gains personal benefit from a positive vote.
Sweet may at least be guilty by association. The concentration of his support comes from those who regard the rest of the county as yahoos
