Kermit Gaston is challenging incumbent Melissa Cribbins for Coos County commission. Gaston joins Matt Rowe in the effort to unseat Cribbins who previously ran on a platform in support of hiring a county administrator. Cribbins has advised that she spends 85% of her time on administrative matters and still feels the county would benefit from the services of a chief executive. Cribbins may very well allot her time heavily toward administration rather than oversight but this would clearly be a choice and not a necessity unless there is something wrong with department management.
Evidently Cribbins is perceived as the most vulnerable candidate but I think John Sweet will be easier to remove from office if we just find an articulate, progressive candidate who can raise adequate campaign funding. Thus far Sweet’s only challenger is Dale Pennie of Bandon.
UPDATE: Cribbins sent me a note last night assuring me she does not spend 85% of her time on administration.
I’d get behind Don Gurney, for sure.
I nominate Mary Geddry
Thanks for the vote of confidence but I can assure you my temperament is not suited to public office. I’d be snorting and guffawing and laughing out load and well you get the picture…
Dan Gurney comes to mind. It would be easy to convince the voters that we should have elected him.
The ideal candidate will have commonsense, be unwilling to chase carrots, with no ties to the area.
Got anyone in mind? Please help find someone or run yourself. (you might want to change that avatar if you do)
Gaston, the cook and former Preacher with a GED, wont win. He is articulate. Its name recognition here in Coos land. The ideal candidate will be educated, from North Bend, with experience in the timber industry.
