Commissioner Melissa Cribbins has some competition for the number three commission seat. Coquille resident Matt Rowe filed Friday to take a run at her in the upcoming May election which means he will have barely two months to present himself to the voters. The politically ambitious Rowe hasn’t even finished his first term as Coquille’s mayor and has been putting out feelers for months and was rumored to be considering a run for state representative. When incumbent Wayne Krieger decided not to retire, Rowe evidently decided to switch his attention to the county commission.
In addition to working for the school district as a school bus driver, Rowe also distributes papers for The Sentinel. According to his neighbors, however, all too many copies of The Sentinel wind up in the communal dumpster. May we ascertain that Rowe is just too busy for recycling?Considering her formal educational background, Cribbins performance as a commissioner has been underwhelming, in my opinion. Rowe, however, would not be an improvement and lacks the maturity necessary for any job requiring critical thinking and cool deliberation. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the first debates or public forums, they should be pretty entertaining.
IMO, Matt Rowe is simply not qualified for the job. With all due respect, he’s an aspiring “shuck and jive” politician. Resume: Sleazy political consultant and unpaid mayor of Coquille for about 1 and 1/2 years. In his hometown of Coquille he garners little respect. I would guess some of the people supporting his bid for election are out to take advantage of his youth, naivety, inexperience, etc… Enough said without even mentioning his reputation at his favorite watering hole, Mr. Zack’s.
He is unqualified and too immature. Take in point that he put his name on a resolution supporting Jordan Cove containing provably false statements. The fact he is willing to sign a document without doing the research is indicative of his lack of experience. While Cribbins is a proponent of the project as well, I don’t believe Rowe will be seeing many votes from locals in favor of a healthy, clean and sustainable economy.
Wasn’t Rowe also an articulate writer for the Sentinel. Cribbins who assured us that she would be a full time commissioner, if defeated, would have more time for the other full time job of Coos Bay / North Bend Water Board Chairman that she refused to leave or for her other full time job as a vodka manufacturer. With Rowe we at least get a commissioner who will listen to the constituents and who will represent all constituents. One who also understands that the tribe is a sovereign nation and the citizens of the US sovereign nation must come first. Now if the timber expert (Gurney?) will give us an alternative to Sweet, we may get somewhere. Expect deep pockets CCAP to be active soon.
I am afraid I will have to write in a candidate for both commission seats
