The brainchild of Melissa Cribbins, the county is having some Halloween fun. There will be prizes for best decorated office and best costumes. Scroll above to see some pics from Elections and Planning.
When my oldest son, a Marine, left for war and crossed the border from Kuwait into Iraq in March 2003 I started writing my conscience. After two tours that young combat veteran’s mother is now an ardent peace activist and advocate for social, environmental and economic justice.
MGx has matured since those early vents and ramblings and now covers relevant and important local and regional matters in addition to national and global affairs.
“The Reminder”‘s comment caused me to visit the airport web site. There I found a grandiose plan for the future. One reason for spending the taxpayers money is the fact that there are more than 20,000 airport “movements” of aircraft annually. And significant growth coming. Most would think that means an average of about 55 daily takeoff and land combined. According to an airport manager it means what it says. A typical movement of a private aircraft is: land (1), to taxi way (2), to FBO (3), to ramp by tug for parking (4), to FBO by tug (5), to taxi way (6), to runway (7), V1 wheels up (8). Not 2; an arrival and a departure. And, apparently the annual numbers include commercial, private, occasional military, and USCG aircraft. WOW!
There is absolutely no need for a general aviation terminal. Ocean Air has a great FBO. Their guests, including my kin a Learjet owner, are treated as VIP’s. A terrific lounge. Smiling professional employees. Great ground transportation. They have no need for a VIP terminal. If fact, hopefully MGX’s friends on the airport board are not spending taxpayer money to help their pals at Coos Aviation, the other and not as nice FBO, owned by friends of the board.
They have grand plans to turn the old terminal into a VIP terminal, so the guests of Bandon Dunes don’t have to mingle with the locals when they fly-in with their private jets. My guess is they made that happen.
Okie Dokie! Not to be outdone, your pals Lehman, Barton, et al, tossed a bar b que and picnic at the airport today – balloons and all paid for by Benetti’s I’m certain. It’s a groundbreaking ceremony. For what? We have an unneeded $30 million terminal. The hanger fire was a God send. I’m sure MGX was invited and I look forward to your report.
Hopefully that’s a humongous mushroom atop the house in the last photo and not something else. I love a party more than most. Having said that, hopefully Cribbins has pocket money (perhaps from her needed recent pay raise) to pay for decorations, prizes, and partying on taxpayers time.
Maybe it is because I love Halloween but I think this is a good thing and the staff did this on their down time and are thoroughly enjoying the competition. Making people happy is a good thing

I agree the airport needs some serious watching and analysing but MGx does not have the resources to do It
