Nipped over to check today’s editorial now that Clark Walworth is no longer there and unfortunately it reads pretty status quo. “The devil is in the forest details” applauds the Devil’s Staircase Wilderness Act unanimously passed by the US Senate, which is nice, but then concludes with the same old meme of giving private companies more access to federal timber while ignoring the real devil in the details.
Rural counties are severely hurting and have been for decades. The senators’ next move should be laying out a clear logging plan that is as agreeable to conservationists as SB 352 is to the logging industry.
The real devil, of course, are the special assessments afforded large timber property owners. Public subsidies for private timber without any regard for the ROI to the public is a long overdue debate.
And as I notice on the front page today, his spelling hasn’t improved either.
He will be a nice little fellow and do exactly as he is told. This was his way of saying to those who have been fighting to move this county forward, a great big FU !!!
How does this happen? How could he be just as big a dunce as Clark was? By printing pro logging and pro LNG in his first careful steps here. I don’t see any straddling here, he’s made it clear who he’s talking to. Just another Fredo I’m afraid, I sure hope he proves me wrong, but I’d bet my bottom dollar on it.
This guy must think he’s introducing us to the LNG folks in town. If he was any kind of reporter he wouldn’t have been put in that job, for that paper. That job can only be done by a shill.
These locals have had the truth about this LNG plan purposely hidden from them by this paper. If Wim is right and a lot of those BS boosters don’t know what they’re signing up for, its because that paper has been white-washing for SCDC, the port and all the corrupt politicians that have lied to their constituents and are getting away with that lie.
This part of Oregon is like the mining towns of the old west, we have an abundance of public resources and a lot of greedy hands to help exploit them. The main players in getting and keeping this project alive are all sitting comfortably in a position that they can’t be removed from. The port, SCDC and now the BS gang are all sitting in positions where they feel untouchable because of their political connections that go all the way to the Governor. Bet this kid from Ohio won’t be ready for all the fun we’ve been having.
This is his first statement:
A liquified natural gas facility has the potential to be economically good for all of us, if we handle its development responsibly.
That shows where he stands, and where that paper will continue to stand. Jon Barton and friends can relax, they have an Allie. As you said, you can’t straddle that fence.
Fracking=BAD/WATER
LNG=DANGER/EXPLOSIVE/POLLUTION
Pipeline= PROPERTY THEFT
Jordan Cove= CORRUPTION/GOVERNOR
Yes, he is leaning that way for sure but he sure tried to hug the middle
I notice in today’s paper the publisher, Jeff Precourt shifts from Clark’s editorial tactic of insults and name calling to doing everything he can to straddle the fence and not offend anyone. The problem with LNG and fracking is there is no middle ground.
