The commission will not be interviewing candidates for the position of finance director after all. The position was not accounted for in the recent budget hearings so look for the matter to be brought up again next year.
Commissioner John Sweet and I held a cordial but contentious debate about the Port of Coos Bay’s request for county approval of a new federal TIGER grant to make railroad line repairs. More on this later. Bob Main voiced his disapproval of the port’s request to the legislature to be exempted from paying property taxes to the counties without first bringing it to the county’s attention. Sweet conceded he had been advised of the bill but hadn’t bothered to pass it on. More on this later also.
Cribbins was there. During my exchange with Sweet she contributed that “someone is going to get that TIGER grant” and she would rather it be the port.
Why were you discussing the port at a county commission meeting? When can we expect the report on your discussion with Sweet?
The topic came up as a late agenda item so obviously I wasn’t expecting to start talking about the port, or more specifically economic development in general.
When the video is out I will put it up and explain the significance of the exchange which in no small part is just how entrenched the board is in the development strategies that have failed this county for so long.
Sweet has a position; Main has a position; where’s Cribbins? Maybe after five months she’s still searching for a job description.
