Carlos Arredondo lost his son Alex in Fallujah at the same time my own son, John, also a Marine, was serving in Ramadi. Carlos is a friend and fellow peace activist and eventually lost his second son Brian to suicide when he could no longer deal with his big brother’s death. Carlos is a caring and wonderful human being and I am proud to know him and have marched beside him in peace demonstrations during the Bush years. Carlos always honored the courageous Marine Corps and today Boston heralds Carlos for his own courage in the immediate aftermath of the Boston bombings.
