A stock pile of machinery believed to belong to ORC and its subcontractors located just north of the Mill Casino is reported to be up for auction. If true, this would indicate the floundering chromite miners are not planning on starting operations back up any time soon. Look to see the centrifuges dismantled next to avoid the upcoming property tax assessment this summer. The $60+ million processing plant has received enterprise zone property tax exemption in exchange for providing a minimum number of jobs paying above the local mean standard wage. After the company laid off employees last fall it no longer qualifies for the exemption and could receive a tax bill for the new fiscal year in the $1 to $2 million range.
If you look at the mining sector in general you will see that the industry as a whole has shit the bed… The Feds monetary policy is no longer affecting precious metals. ORC was late to the party with their 6 story Big Tin Shed. Miners all over the world will be puking their equipment.
Do you want to use states or counties? Either way, your comment doesn’t have anything to do with a heavy equipment auction and your attempts to insult me are lame at best. Signing off.
You can use either one. Poor economy = no bike sales….. smart.
I’m getting on my bad motor scooter and ride.
According to the Dept. of Labor, Linski, your argument is very inaccurate.
Mississippi is number one ? So why didn’t you buy there ?
“…management took risks with other people’s money and either by misreading the market, or improper execution of daily operations or both, failed to deliver on their promises. Unfortunately, the taxpayers got sucked into investing as well…”
Are we still talking about ORC??
Why can’t you figure it out al ?
Oh that right , you bought a bike shop in the county with the highest un-employment rate in the country…. smart.
Another interesting point is that neither responded with any facts to correct the record that they were so appalled by. They both accused you of wrongly reporting the facts, then they fail to provide any evidence that supports their position.
If you guys think that crying foul is enough to prove that ORC is still a viable business and that they should get further tax breaks and all the other benefits (like county land options) that have been sought after by SCDC on their behalf, then you fall short. Once again. What was your cut Jon, for arranging all those deals? We know Al’s cut was just a future seat at your round table for his part in supporting this scheme, but “Jon the deal broker” surely had to have cash on the table for all his hard work. Did Fred and Cam get any cash for helping to arrange these deals, or were you the only one of the gang that actually got cash for this sweet deal? Maybe you cheated them out of any commission , just as you are trying to cheat the county on ORC’s behalf. I think Jon has his hand in the pockets of ORC, Jordan Cove, and the coal export people. You are scamming them by not getting these projects past the drawing board. You should give them all a refund.
“5. If you identified yourself then they know you are not: a member of the press, a past employee, a present employee, a Commissioner, Representative, Senator, shareholder or anyone else they may have interest in speaking to.”
How about all of us who paid their way with OUR tax dollars?
It is charming, really, how Al and Jon have appointed themselves champions of poor, helpless ORC.
Off the wagon again al ? Or is it exhaust fumes ?
Here are some possibilities, “Jack” – and I’m just guessing here:
1. There is more than one white water truck in Oregon.
2. If it’s ORC’s then they may have good reason to park their truck in their own parking lot.
3. If it is their truck, and it’s not for sale, then they don’t want to talk to you about selling their truck.
4. If it’s not their truck, then they don’t want to talk to you about someone else’s truck.
5. If you identified yourself then they know you are not: a member of the press, a past employee, a present employee, a Commissioner, Representative, Senator, shareholder or anyone else they may have interest in speaking to.
6. They simply do not have the time or the desire to discuss their business matters with someone that has no reason to know their business matters.
But I’m just guessing.
Because they have milked all of their investors dry? What a great scam it was!
What ever happened to the poster child “Cheryl” ? You know, Arnies math student. The one ORC chose for their ……
ORC management took risks with other people’s money and either by misreading the market, or improper execution of daily operations or both, failed to deliver on their promises.
Unfortunately, the taxpayers got sucked into investing as well due in no small part to lobbying efforts by Jon Barton and his enterprise zone drum beating acolytes.
Remember, there is absolutely no empirical evidence that enterprise zone tax exemptions ever payoff for the taxpayer. NONE.
Are interested in purchasing it?
I guess this might be a little belated but there is a white water tank staged with the heavy equipment that came from the mine site. It is pictured in a photo available from DOGAMI that was taken during their last inspection. So Jon or Al: Is West Coast Resources divesting itself or not? They are’nt returning my calls. Jack
EEEEoouwwww, widdle al is a huffin and a puffin and a blowin himself all up, what a sad little fellow he’s turned out to be.
Actually, TonyCapo, my point was to politely ask Mary to tread lightly when shifting from the subject matter to personal insults. As the saying goes: don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house.
What al is saying, is only throw crap, if your glass house is paid for by somebody else. Or was that just the windows ? lol
It appears some “truthiness” is squeezing out around the corners here in good ol Coos County. Those “job creators” sure seem jittery lately, all because of a girl and her blog?
Really?
Did you just accuse Jon of costing “a lot of people and taxpayers a lot of money and heartache”?
Are we going to switch subjects and talk about scams, fraud and heartache? Because I know a few areas we could cover.
I suspect no one would doubt that you would know about a few. I personally doubt you have the cojones to call any out.
Just a reminder, Mary: you are a public blog. It is your intention to “serve” our community by posting your personal opinion on every topic imaginable, so you must expect to be challenged from time to time when you wander a bit too far from the facts. If you don’t like folks like me adding my two cents worth, then password protect your blog. This probably isn’t a bad idea, given the often foul and offensive contributions from Themguys. And since you’d rather censor me than her, it would at least protect the women and children.
That could be interpreted as a threat.
Al is big on threats but short on stature and follow through
Wow Mary, they seem to be projecting even more than usual, kudos for getting Al & Jon’s goat! Admittedly, that is not much of a feat, but they sure are super sensitive to the fact that ORC was a scam and we all saw it way before they did, and now resort, again, to threats and distraction. You’d think they would preach to the choir over at the World, but even they realize that paper isn’t putting forth any facts or intelligent conversation so they come here and act abused yet can’t tear themselves away…
Jon should read a grammar school math book before he embarrasses himself again in the paper
As you noted earlier, methinks they doth protest too much. Meanwhile, I think I will go off now and pawn myself off as a serious blogger
Jon and Al, if you have proof the equipment is not in anyway related to the ORC mining operations or processing then provide it, until then you’re both just blowing smoke. Why should anyone believe you, you can’t even do simple math?
You have made a lot of claims, Jon, that have fallen flat and cost a lot of people and taxpayers a lot of money and heartache not to mention you have presided over that fiasco called an airport.
If you have a problem with this blog I suggest reading something else.
Can you PROVE that equipment is associated with ORC’s operations?
Does that even matter to you?
Well, that’s certainly true! Before you can retreat you have to engage first.
Clearly, I am just not that into you, Al
That cut like a knife….
Mary are you sure Al is not supertroll Pickering ?
Sure sounds like him.
They do bear a striking resemblance, don’t they?!?! Steve might even be slightly smarter than Al but your are right, they both represent themselves as experts in pretty much everything
This started out as an irresponsible and wildly presumptive conclusion about ORC, so let’s just see how the mysterious auction plays out…..
Actually, if you read the post, it started as a question voiced by several people in the hopes that someone might know the answer to the “mysterious auction”. Instead, you and Jon turned it into an argument for nothing more than daring to ask the question.
If I haven’t stated this before, Al, I believe you and Jon make miserable emissaries for the business community.
Are you back-peddling Mary? Because that last comment sure sounds like a retreat to me. You made some assertions, followed by “if true”. If you doubt your own conclusions then why make them in the first place? That approach will never win the Martha Gellhorn Prize for truth in journalism.
P.S. If the business community – which you are not a member of – believes we make “miserable emissaries” – they’ll let us know.
Retreat? What the hell would I be retreating from? Certainly not you.
No, Mary, only the truth. You simply can’t pawn yourself off as a serious disseminated of information when you put forth thing like the ORC piece which you now say was merely “asking a question” that others posed to you. THERE IS NO ORC OR WCC EQUIPMENT IN THAT AUCTION. If you were honest you would so state on your blog with the same prominence with which you made the initial insinuation.
Al, you’ve done a great job of setting the record straight. Jon has said too much, and just wants the subject to go away. I notice how you guys cry foul and never have any evidence to dispute a story like this one. This is a vintage ” who you gonna believe, me, or your lying eyes”, scenario.
As I said before: this blog will never be famous for truth or accuracy.
Why do things look different to you al ?
Could it be your looking out Windows that somebody else paid for ?
Manup with something factual…
Ha !
You and your cronies that have been sucking Mama’s teats for twenty years, all the while telling the poor workers of Coos County you were going to bring them jobs and prosperity. All the while sitting at the bar laughing at the poor fools for believing you all along, and funding you.
You wouldn’t KNOW the truth al and barton. You know nothing but how to blow smoke up unsuspecting arses.
Al doth protest too much
It’s not that difficult to find the truth once in awhile. A phone call here and there usually does the trick. I know this isn’t a serious news outlet – not in any stretch of the imagination – but even a blogger can stumble onto a few facts now and then.
This from the guy who publicly accused the entire solid waste staff of abusing drugs
Jon and Al sure got their fur up on this story. What part of this story is a lie?
There’s several parts to this short story that they could be referring to. You don’t convince anyone without specifics when you attack this story like that. If you want to convince these readers that she’s wrong, then do it with YOUR facts.
Here is a link to the equipment being auctioned. Obviously, the owner no longer believes there is no work down the road to justify keeping the equipment
http://www.rbauction.com/search?id=ci®ion=Coos-Bay-OR-Apr-12-2013&auction=United-States&s=Y2k1fE49NDI5NDc0ODE3MSs0Mjk0OTYzNjU1KzQyOTQ2MTA4MTM
Why would you make such assertions and insinuations when they are categorically untrue? Trying to stir the pot a bit are you? Not enough hate and discontent to suit in your part of town?
Gosh, Jon, all I have done is voice the obvious questions raised by everyone who recognizes that the equipment now being parked on a lot used to work the ORC Seven Devil’s Mine. Why are you so sensitive? Oh, that’s right, you pushed this company on the area and lobbied for their tax exemption which has been a net loser for the taxpayer, but that isn’t my fault.
So, since you know so much you are willing to go on record as saying that reports that the remaining staff will be gone by June are untrue? Will you guarantee that all the remaining jobs will continue or that ORC will start up within the year?
Why don’t YOU tell us about selling your $30,000 satellite tracker to Waterfall Clinic, who offers medical help to the poorest among us Jon Barton?
They don’t even have a place to keep it. Please tell us why you decided you were more entitled to public money than the homeless that rely on that facility?
Tell us big guy.
Or STFU.
You should probably get some substantiated facts before coming to wild and erroneous conclusions such as this. Your feet-on-the-street reporter should be seriously reprimanded – whoever that is.
