In keeping with a recent trend of holding the regular board of commissioners meetings away from the courthouse, the BOC will hold its next meeting in Powers. First Charleston which was well attended by the local citizens and then Bandon which was completely ignored allowed the commission to demonstrate the duties of the board around the county but also requires the department heads to make the trek. On Tuesday, the sheriff’s department, IT, planning, road and the treasurer will be at the Powers Police Station unless their business can wait until the next meeting.
Reaching out to the far reaches of the county is a great idea but I don’t think holding regular BOC meetings away from the courthouse is fiscally responsible or even effective. If the board wants to hold “meet and greets” in the evenings when working people can attend without dragging the department heads all over, that would be a wonderful gesture.

Why not limit meet and greets to the Coquille, Coos Bay and North Bend areas where a majority of the people reside?
