Quick note from a friend watching last night’s Port commission meeting- Apparently, the Coos Bay Rail Link has experienced its first derailment and a truck also caught fire, (the new hi-rail maybe) somewhere near Reedsport. The meeting is not yet online but is now airing on Channel 14. The derailment is being attributed to vandalism on the line….

All you know is what the Port has told you Mark. No sense worrying about it, it’s a bucket of rust, and will remain so until they kill some people. Perhaps then it will be put to a stop.
You ask me MY thoughts about prosperity for this county? At least raise the tax rates up to equal the average in Oregon. Secondly, take away all enterprise zones in this county. Third, make Bandon Dunes et al pay their taxes. And stop letting Bandon Dunes pour OUR money into the wasteless second airline terminal with the worse operations in this state. I haven’t checked with Powers yet, but It’s a safe bet.
Mark, did you see the Ports’ cost/analysis studies on any of their “projects”? Ever? How can you support these coccamamee projects they foist on all of us.
I’m sure you have, can you share those studies with We The Taxpayer?
You weren’t right at all. Someone went out and ripped up the line. Given the tools and elbow grease, that’s no great shakes at all. It speaks in no way to the material integrity of the line.
No railroad for Coos County? OK, let’s hear your economic plan sans rail. People on this board agonize over returning to 19th C technology. You want to return to the 18th C.
What’s your plan for prosperity?
As I hope you know, schools are funded by the state on a per pupil basis. Federal spending on the rail has no bearing whatsoever on Coos County school funding. However, economic development would make a big difference in our school funding — more jobs, more growth, more families, more students, more money for schools.
Apparently you have a secret plan for economic prosperity in Coos County. I wish you’d stop throwing stones at everyone else long enough to tell us about it.
Mark? You have NO idea what happened. It really doesn’t matter, it’s a rusted bucket shell of an operational railroad. Some of us have been saying that all along, looks like we are right. I’m mad because we don’t have a local newspaper that actually reports news. He’s got nothin but a sports page with a few tidbits of other stuff on it. This should have been reported the day after it happened. Stop making excuses for the fact we don’t have an open FREE press in Coos County who actually reports news, not publishing propaganda for every filthy, dirty, extractive industry that is attracted to The Anus of The Northwest. And your thinking keeps it that way. This railroad should not be operating, period. Someone will be killed before this nonsense stops. Will you accept responsibility for pimping for this railroad when that happens? Will you accept any responsibility at all?I have seen no proof of who is “sabotaging”(sp) the Rusted Railroad To Nowhere.
Nor do I believe it is “a local band of vigilantes/terrorists” doing so, but you know Mark, that does fit nicely into the Ports bag of tricks, no? Blame their pile of scrap on eco-terrists, as you seem to imply. What rubbish. Grow a pair Mark and think like a big boy.
This Port is nothing but a money-sucking scam being foisted on the people of Oregon year after year after year. They produce nothing, nada. But high salaries for their staffs. But we sure can thank the Democrats for working so hard to fund this junk pile to the tune of what now Mark? Hundred million? How much in ten years Mark? And your Democrats fight to fund it? For what? How are our schools doing in Coos County Mark, you as an educator I would think would be working to get your so called Democrats – Roblan, Pete and the rest to fund our schools instead of this shake-down that is the Port. In my opinion of course.
That’s funny.
I’m mad too, TG. But not at the newspaper. I’m mad at the vandals who ripped up the line for $200 of scrap metal. Or are we looking at a local band of vigilantes/terrorists? Either way, it costs all of us $20K to repair.
And you’re mad at the media?!?
That’s a right winger game.
I hope these criminals are caught and prosecuted. Do you?
Or would you rather go after Clark?
Clark of The World just simply has run out of time, geesh, changing his tights and pom poms from Rusty Railroad Red, to Chamber of Consorts pink, to SCDC Blue, see? they ain’t got no time attal to report that one of his darlings de-railed, Quiet as mice ain’t they? They act like mice, scurrying about behind the pantry door, doing OUR business at night when no one sees. Well I got to give them credit, their train de-rails last week, and they simply ignore it. I wonder if Peter The Great showed up for cocktails like he did a few weeks ago? And Arnie The Enabler too? And the local taxpayer keeps his head down and isn’t even told what a wank job they just took on.
