Earlier today I sent the following email to Commissioner Cam Parry to try and learn why the Coos County Commission is so confident tribal management of the CBWR lands is beneficial enough to finance trips to Washington, DC. Also, I wanted to discover if the CBWR proposal had been appended to any other pending legislation

Hi Cam, hope you are home safe and sound. Attached is an analysis of the County Payments Act that is illustrative of the type of due diligence the commission should be conducting along with an EIS before it offers blanket support and actively lobbies Congress on behalf of tribal management of CBWR.

Additionally, in the absence of any data provided from the BOC or the tribe it appears that the only way the projected revenue target of $185 million over ten years can be met is to violate existing environmental protections. If this assumption is untrue, please provide some data and analysis that supports the tribal proposal and justifies the county’s investment.

Lastly, has the tribal proposal been crafted into legislative language and inserted into any legislation expected to be voted upon by this Congress? If so, please provide a bill number so that we may track its progress.

Thank you,

Mary

As documented on this blog I have submitted my questions to Parry and the Coquille Tribe and while everyone has been congenial I have yet to receive any answers, so I was a bit frustrated when Parry once again referred me to the tribe.

Dear Mary –

Would you be kind enough to direct your questions to Tim and Brett this week? Kennie and I have had a very sad week and we are taking some time to deal with all of it.

Thank you so much and please take care –

Cam

Either our commissioners know and understand what they are supporting or they don’t but if they know something the rest of us do not, they need to cough it up right away. Obviously the tribe is under no obligation to answer my questions but what is becoming increasingly obvious is that all three commissioners are relying entirely upon representations made by the Coquille Tribe to base their decisions. Not one of them has undertaken any independent due diligence or analysis to validate the claims of jobs, revenue and environmental protections. The actions of all three commissioners, Parry, Bob Main and Fred Messerle appear reckless and grossly and perhaps criminally negligent.

Letters or emails to our Congressional representatives asking if they have any knowledge of pending legislative action on this matter is strongly recommended.
